I recently found a recipe for Olive Garden's Berry Sangria. It calls for Soleo Red Table Wine. I'm having some trouble finding this. Is Soleo the brand name?

Thanks to those who responded that Soleo was made by Sutter Home!

Since the Soleo brand has been discontinued, I would appreciate recommendations for a red substitution.

Man, I haven't seen a soleo label in years...as somebody mentioned, was a sutter home label from maybe 7 years ago. I used to print their labels here in Napa.

I would actually try using a pinot grigio if you want white sangria with peaches and stuff in it But a nice merlot or zinfandel for the red sangria. Usually sangria has berries and fruit juice so you would probably not want to bother with things like Cabernet which would just completely overpower the sangria. A nice fruity red would be great.

Personally for Sangria I don't spend over $10 for a bottle. You are just adding fruit and juice to it, so it doesn't matter.

Sutter Home used to make Soleo red table wine back in the late 1980's but I think they discontinued it....and frankly it did not get very good reviews.

You might want to try using one bottle of cabernet sauvignon and one bottle of merlot - a blend of the two - and go for a moderate price from a decent vintner...say $9 a bottle.

1-1/2 liters red table wine (I used Lambrusco) 1 cup grenadine 2 cups cranberry juice cocktail 1-1/4 cups sweet vermouth 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 cup water (half sugar, half water) Strawberry, cut into thirds Orange, sliced thin, then quartered Crushed ice This makes a gallon. Mix all the ingredients (I used a plastic ice cream bucket), except for ice. Let sit in refrigerator at least 4-5 hours, if not overnight. Pour sangria into serving glass, fruit and all, then add ice. (don't know which recipes you have tried. This one claim to taste the same... but certainly no guarantees.)
