is it your first response or last resort??

Question

i was driving past a church and they had a sign out that said "prayer should be your first response not a last resort"

i was wondering who agrees with that.
i have always thought that whichever deity you believe in would prefer you to be independent, and try everything that you could on your own before you asked for help.
what do you think??

I usually disagree with the Catholic Church. However, I agree with the slogan written on their Church buses. "God helps those who help themselves."

I don't know which 'religious affiliation' that church has, but I do love the 'saying' ... and I am a Catholic. I don't say any of the 'regular prayers out of a book' the way many Catholic's do, but I 'pray' pretty much all of the time ... it helps 'keep me sane' and to 'think better' and 'do more right' ... so I'm not 'asking God for help' but am 'checking with him frequently for guidance.'

I don't think you would ever have to ask any deity for help. It would be the deity's first response to help you, not a second thought.

Prayer is for people who think that God is not smart enough to know what is in their best interest.

They think that God needs their prayers and advice to wise him up.

hey i agree with u. thats exactly how i am.

u have to pull away from the tit eventually. stop milking god and be independant a little.

i doubt s/he enjoys billions of people clinging to him/her. lol.
