It has oxycodone, which is in the same family as codeine--but it's stronger.

It may have been neither. Your doctor could very well have prescribed you oxycodone. This is actually the main ingredient in oxycontin, but it is comes in much smaller doses than oxycontine, is not time release, and is often combined with tylenol (called percocet). A common prescription for wisdom teeth would be for 5/325 oxycodone pills with the 5 being the mgs of oxycodone and the 325 being the mgs of acetaminophen (tylenol). Some doctors may also prescribe Vicodin which is a mixture of hydrocodone and tylenol. Its hard to tell what you got because the effects you described are common with all of these drugs.

Ask your doctor of pharmacist. But I will tell you that my ex-wife is allergic to codeine but after emergency gall bladder surgery they placed her on Oxycontin with out any problem. But everyone reacts differently to medicines. Check with a medical professional. Or even your local Poison Control Center might be able to help you.

Please ask this question of your prescribing doctor and don't use an online prescription.

I'm from USA and here we call that stuff "Hillbilly Heroin".
