My parents divorced when I was just a few months old because my dad was an alcoholic and beat up on my mom. My mom never talks about him, except to occasionally tell me I look just like him. I don't really know what he looks like either, I just know his name. I'm afraid to ask my mom about him. That and I know she has no idea where he is. I'll be 18 next month and really want to know where he is and maybe get in contact with him. I feel resentment towards him but I'm still curious about the person he is today. Any ideas about where I should begin??

I know exactly how you feel. I grew up without my father because he was an alcoholic and would hit my mom and me and I was an infant. Your mom is probably so emotionally scared from the marriage that she can't talk about it I just happened to run into my dad when i was 13. I was very disappointed. he was everything my mother claimed he was. I'm grown now with my own family and I thank God everyday that he sent me a good men that loves me and our children. I've also learned to look to God to be my father who provides for all my needs. It has been very therapeutic for me. My heart is not totally healed yet but I know that I am loved and looked after by a heavenly father.

All I can say is if he has not tried to contact you by now maybe he is not really worth you getting your hopes up to find out he is not the kind of dad you want to know or even be related to.
