ok so answers i got were to the effect of, "God said nothing he made was unclean and we could eat of it. "

now i ask, why did he say back in the OT that shellfish were unclean? i thought god was unchanging? is this an exception or are you speaking for god? why did the law randomly change? did Jesus's coming have an effect on the cleansing of animals as well then?

This is something I have always wondered about also. What I can't figure out is how shellfish are less clean than pork. Pork is the nastiest, filthiest meat. I don't understand how a saltwater fish can be unclean. Shellfish come from the sea.

I guess Jesus cleansed the fish when he walked on the water.

The laws of Torah included civil as well as religious laws. God INTENDED that His chosen people would have a Theocratic govenment where only He ruled. This government has laws concerning health and welfare and the shellfish where included in the foods which were dangerous without refrigeration or other factors.

When we say that God does not change, we a talking about His nature and goals. But because of man's rebellion and disobedience, He DOES change His methods to reach His IMMUTABLE will....which never changes.

Shellfish, fish without scales, horses, swine, fowl with web feet. You can eat these but you will suffer bad health because of it.

Unclean was a refrence to Gentiles. Gentiles were considered unclean, but are now grafted into the vine with the Jews. Equal opportunity to enter heaven.

The law does not change as Jesus said it is fulfilled. Man's relationship to God changes the law remains the same. The atonement did not change God it changed man. Example Chippy for a month I left the porch light on in anticipation of your visit..Now you are here...should leave the light on for you? Is there some reason I should pretend you have not arrived?

This is what Jesus says:
Mark 7:4-8
4When they come from the marketplace they do not eat unless they wash. And they observe many other traditions, such as the washing of cups, pitchers and kettles.[a])

5So the Pharisees and teachers of the law asked Jesus, "Why don't your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders instead of eating their food with 'unclean' hands?"

6He replied, "Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written:
" 'These people honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
7They worship me in vain;
their teachings are but rules taught by men.'[b] 8You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to the traditions of men."

-We are under a New Covenant, so therefore we are not under "rules" anymore- God does not change! You are right, but He gives us grace.

Don't forget also that Jesus expressly said not a letter of the law would pass away.
