That mankind may one day be superior to God (or the concept of God if you want to argue it as an atheist) I feel its obviously we're already ethically superior to God but what about physically?
When we understand the Universe and manipulate spacetime as a mere plaything while our minds expand in to hyperspace. Will we be Gods?
Does being religious make you want to be a slave forever?

I don't know why some people consider such an idea arrogant. Is it because I know I wasn't made from dirt? Someone said ask when we can create universes and life - well we can create life now in a sense - viruses have been made from off the shelf chemicals. What I am talking about is something very different. I guess deep down I'm just an optimist about the human race.

A civilization that would be able to manipulate the Planck energy (10^19 billion electron volts), the energy at which space-time becomes unstable. Will not be able to worship God.

By religious types I'm assuming you mean Christians? You know that they will never acknowledge that because 1. they'd have to accept evolution. 2. They'd have to accept that we as a species will continue our existence well into the future. (Which they believe the world will end soon.) 3. They'd haven't yet accepted that humans are morally superior to their concept of God, which they don't.
Now I do practice a religion (not Christianity) and I do accept evolution. It's my belief that we should strive to be Gods, work our way up so to speak. Ascendancy in evolution is a noble goal. And no, I would never want to be a slave to another beings will.

hm.. I'm a religious type but I don't believe in the monotheistic concept of "God", and it's difficult for me to answer this in that respect.
I think the monotheistic concept of God (islam, judaism, christianity) is waning, and people are becoming more enlightened to a lot of things because of it.
I don't see myself as ethically superior to "God", as my concept of such doesn't turn God into a tantrum throwing, mind-gamer who sits on a throne and just waits for me to screw up.
I can completely understand your line of thinking, and yes, it is a possibility that we may one day be "gods" in that respect.
I don't ever want to be a slave to any being.

I think some things about some religions cultivate a psychic low self esteem, teaching that people are inherently bad, and that the biggest reward is to be toadying to an angry, insecure God forever. Forever...a really long time...
So, I'm picturing "God" and "Christians" as a panel on the Jerry Springer show....

Read "His Dark Materials" by Philip Pullman, it's about a man who declares war on heaven in an attempt to overthrough the "authority". I agree 100% that we are ethically superior to god, if he actually exists.

Think of it this way...when we understand the Universe, which we never completely will mind you, can we then create a Universe of our own? When man learns to create its own Universe, and life, both of which can sustain themselves, you should ask again.

We fool ourselves when we think we will someday be God. We are not even promised tomorrow. Being religious sets me free because I am no longer a slave to sin.
