It would seem so unfair that people are allowed to keep a barking dog on a porch, and yet they will complain about wind chimes. I just got one yesterday and now I'm paranoid. Opinions?

The only person that loves the wind chime is the person that bought it! When you selected that wind chime you tried out the sound of a few right? You chose the one that was most pleasing to "your ear" right? Well think about your nearby neighbors ... what might be charming to you may be aggravating them .... Noises like wind chimes can be extremely annoying in a apartment complex situation.

Please reconsider this choice ....

Its up to the complex's management. Some have policies against items like wind chimes, as its under the realm of the right to "quiet enjoyment". If your neighbors complain, you are generally expected to take them down out of courtesy.

It would depend on your apartment complex rules.
Sounds a bit unfair though if the apartment allows barking dogs on the porch - maybe you can bring this contradiction up with your apartment owner/manager?

You can have wind chimes, but you might want to check with your apartment manager

I would assume ANYTHING that would bother a neighbor can be complained about to the landlord.

Read your lease. If there are rules about it they will be in there.
