The lines you see are just so you can distinguish one cell from another. If you want lines to show up, you must add them using the borders toolbar. Fortunately, it's easy.

Just select the cells you want to have borders, then select the borders tool from the menu (or select Format > Cells > Borders) and chose the type of border.
