The best answer is get fit fit or demo multiple clubs. You need to try different shafts (both flex and types) before buying. The clubhead sells but the shaft performs. Trying different flexes of the same brand may not be enough. A regular and stiff shaft of the same type will likely have about the same torque and may not be much different.

You could put 2 different clubheads on the same shaft and they will perform about the same. But, put the same clubhead on 2 different shafts and you will have 2 entirely different clubs. Concentrate on the shaft.

You can look in golf digest and find which drivers are rated the best and what they retail for. A good thing to do if possible is go to a demo day. You can try out all of that company's clubs and see if you like them before you buy. Most golf courses will have a demo bag in the pro shop with various club in them. Mostly 5 or 6 irons of different brands but sometimes they will have drivers in them too.

I would recommend going to a club fitter. They can analyze your swing and recommend what loft and shaft type is ideal for you. You could have the best driver in the world, but if it's not right for your swing type then it's worthless.

Hey, I have a Taylor Made R7 Quad as well. I bought it off of eBay for a little over a hundred bucks, used, but in great condition. It has a 400cc head, so it's not the biggest club out there by far. But this is the first driver that I've ever been able to hit on a consistent basis.

The Taylor Made R7 Quad. It dropped my handicap from 17 to 12. Also, look into a good putter to drop your handicap even farther.

ok i'm 14 years old and a touch extra effective than you. attempt to take heed to me in this. I did atleast 8 hours of analyze on the r9,r9460. I went to attempt it out and the club head tilt and crap isn't worth it. i determined to get the Hibore xls draw. It became about $one hundred thirty and the superb driver. i'm constintly hitting the ball 30 yards extra and hitting the ball a lot a lot straighter.

TaylorMade

Golf Digest just did a club edition...it may be online now.

It's their opinion that for 12-24 handicappers they'd be better served with new drivers and using hybrids then anything else. Well that and better swings.

I picked up a Tec Plus 425cc 10 degree driver by Knight. It was cheap at K-mart ($19.99) but, it's been great to practice with. I went back and bought a Tec Plus 4 hybrid.

at really good golf stores they have what is called a 'launch monitor'. it uses high speed cameras to photograph the ball right after impact , calculates swing speed, lauch angle, spin rate and other things i dont remember.
but what it does is it puts the best shaft for your swing to maximize distance and accuracy. it works great. in my opinion all the top end clubs are pretty much the same, if there was one club(s) that was superior then all the pros would use them.

pick up a r7 superquad when it comes out if you don't care about dishing out like $600
