100 km = 62 m

60 = speed limit(someplaces)

its good because if you read some metric specs
they do 0-100km/hr so 0-60mph is very close

It all goes back to the late 60's, early 70's, when auto magazines wanted to compare acceleration times from one car to another, and the speed limit was, on average, 60mph. So the thought was, how long does it take for a vehicle to go from a standing start to merge with hi way speed vehicles, and 0-to-60mph was decided as the gold standard to all vehicles. It has stayed that way since then, and is the same for stopping distance evaluations, ie 60-to-0 in how many feet. Plus, it was very near to the same as 100km/hr, so it compared easily around the globe.

In reality, I'd look at other things, really.
