every penny you can get for them...you know how much work and time you put into them, how much is that worth to you...don't worry about "them" they can just get over their cheap little selves and pony up.

Send some pics. Have you been painting for awhile? Do you sell through any galleries? Have you got a portfolio? Do you have any training/education regarding the Fine Arts? Is there a market for your "style"?
All these will determine what you would sell at.

If you've never exhibited in a formal exhibition space like a gallery etc., you will find it difficult to get more than a few hundred dollars for a large painting.

What do you mean by "allowed"?? Sell them for whatever you want to.
