Take off as many pieces as possible to lighten the load, wrap any wood or delicate fabric in a thick blanket, then tie the blanket over it using rope. Not only will this protect it from scuffs, but it also gives you something extra to hold onto to prevent slips. Also most importantly, make a plan of action before you head up the stairs, if you need to measure. if two people try and go different ways, or get stuck, the couch can get dropped or banged on something.

Remove as much as you can of the sofa ie. back cushions if they unzip etc. Cover the sofa with a large blanket. when you reach the top of the stairs, stand it up on end and try to manouvere it in an upright position.

Rent something called a dolly . Place your sofa on it the long way and pull it backwards up the stairs. (Wrap a heavy blanket or quilt around it before placing on the dolly.)

they do say my friend any doubt take it through the window i know you have to go up some stairs, hire a small winch or get some strong lads with rope and pull her up with a rope at the bottom to keep her clear from the wall hope this helps.
