I have three cats who are all neutered and well adjusted. Recently my girlfriend's best friend moved into our spare room, and brought her older male cat with her. Problem is, he is territorial and he is spraying all over. The house smells like piss, and it's not acceptable. The cat, Millie, is about 6 years old, strong, and seems to be in great health.

I'm wondering if Millie is too old to be neutered? I've done some research which has indicated to me that neutering might be a good option, but she is skeptical and I'd like to get some more feedback and experience on this issue. I appreciate all your answers.

Have the vet take a look at the cat to see if it is in good health. The main concern with older cats, as I understand it, is whether they can handle the anesthetic they get for neutering. If the vet thinks the cat can handle it, you might have the cat's teeth cleaned at the same time if Millie has plaque.

I fostered rescue cats for 2 years. No matter what age, all of our cats were spayed/neutered before going up for adoption. Of a span of 75+ cats, ages 3 months to 12 years approx, I have not witnessed one problem. My suggestion is to go ahead and get this done.
