If she's just started this, it may be that she is in heat. My cat Baby started meowing non-stop two weeks ago, and we thought something was wrong with her, so we took her to the vets. The vet aid she had just gone into heat and the meowing is to let you know she wants to be let outside to go find herself a mate. He said alot of cat owners think something is wrong when their cats first start getting into heat, but there is nothing to be concerned about

if you havent had her spayed then she could be in heat, searching for a male. If you've had her spayed then this could be a number of things including, pain, stress, attention seeking etc.
If you have had her spayed, then check her to see if there are any painful area's or a difference in the urine, faeces etc.
If you are unsure take her to a vet, they will be able to help you.
Remember if your female cat is siamese then this would be normal. Certain breeds of cat are more 'talkative than others' however this would not suit the loud whiny meowing that you described.
My advice would be that if she has been spayed take her to a vet and see, a consultation for a simple health check is free :)

I think she may be wanting to enjoy a boy cat. Or perhaps she needs some treatment for a pain of some kind.
Is she a Siamese cat? They always meow a lot, that is a trait of that breed.
Or perhaps she just likes to sing a shrill cat song.

One of my cats did that a couple of months ago and she was spayed for 10 years. We found out she was in kidney failure and in pain. We had to euthanize her when she got to where she couldn't walk. I'm not saying she might be in kidney failure, that's just what happened to my cat when she wouldn't stop meowing. I wish you the best of luck that she is only in heat if she is not spayed.

i've got the exact same problem with my cat, but hes been neutered so thats not the problem. Our vet told us about this spray which contains pheremones (spelling?) that can quieten cats down. I havn't used it yet so not sure if it works but its a natural remedy so it won't harm your cat. Ask your vet about it.

Our cats learned that if they mewed at me loudly I gave them food to quieten them! Unfortunately this has turned into them learning that yowling = food and they make more noise than ever! The cat may be mewing to try and get you to do something, not necessarily food, do you give it more attention when it cries? That might encourage it to do more shouting.

Is this your first cat? If you haven't got her spayed then she is deffenitly in heat. My cat is in heat right now, so we have to put plastic on the couches because she kinda pees on them, its like her sexual aroma. Don't worry heats only last a week.
