The big dog show in Madison Square Garden starts this Monday (2/12/07.) Who besides myself would like to see a breed that has never won come in first? And what breed would you like to see win?
I'd love to see a Belgian or Tevergian shepard win.

I did say breeds that haven't won - No poodles, german shepards and about half of the terriers.

I think it's time for the bulldogs to get some recognition. Either the English or their adorable cousins the Frenchies! :-D

The dog only has to be fully registered with the AKC, (not limited).. if your papers have a purple border, its fine. If the papers have an orange border, your dog is on limited registration and cannot be shown. The dog must be at least 6 months old. The dog must be intact. The dog must not have had any surguries to alter his appearance. The dog can not have any disqualifying traits or display aggression. Check the breed standard for DQ traits. They dont look at the pedigree for showing.. you have a 3 gen pedigree in your possession, but records can be traced farther back than that if the dog is registered.

Not MY breed!
Sadly, many dog people don't really want to see their breed win in a big televised show. When that happens, hordes of people are wanting a dog just like so-and-so, whether it is a good match for them or not. The BYBs and commercial breeders churn out as many as possible. Couple years down the road, breed rescue is FULL of them.

I'm taking a dog also.
As to what might win: Could be one of the following:
Dandie Dinmont Terrier
Sealyham Terrier
English Springer Spaniel
Toy Poodle
Whippet
What would I like to see win: Beside my dog (haha)--the dog that most deserves it.

They are all winners! I enjoy naming the breeds b-4 the anouncers anouce the breed. I don't have them all down but each year I watch I'm getting closer. I'm partial to the Sporting Group. But like I said; they are all winners! have fun watching.

I agree, I certainly don't want a basset hound to win. The last thing our breed needs is the wave of popularity that would come from it.
Well.......if it's MY basset hound that wins Westminister I'll make an exception.........;-)

I love the dog shows! I'm a dog lover so I can't really pick one breed. Maybe I'm too much of a softie.

oooh - The Alaskan Klee Kai - a new breed (mini husky) and I have one :) or a flashy Boxer!
I'm all for the American Staffie too - a great breed with a bad rap.
