mormons claim that they can have their family together forever in heaven.
is this a belief that only mormons have? or do other religions also believe that they will be reunited with loved ones that have died?

This coming from the same group of people that had multiple wives, mandated racism within their organization and have dogmatic beliefs that a 12 year human boy was their savior and follow his "teachings" in a cultlike way. I would have a hard time believing anything they say.

Funny that you call it an "idea" and not a belief...

Anyways, I don't know of any other religion that claims the couple will be married for eternity...every marriage ceremony I have ever heard the pastor, preacher, bishop, whatever states "until death do you part" because that is all the authority that person has, what is loosed on earth will be loosed in heaven.
Through revealtion and restoration of the Priesthood of God, there are those on this earth who have the authority to "seal" a couple together for eternity and that also seals their children and posterity to them, it is like a big chain linked together by generations. The Lord has promised that whatsoever is bound earth shall be bound in heaven - and being "bound" is the sealing power of the priesthood.
Other religions might believe that they will be "re-united" with their loved ones, but there is no promise from God that the couple will remain married or that their family will be forever. Only through the Priesthood and correct authority can a man make such a promise for God.

As formal doctrine this is an LDS belief. There are "vestigal" elements in the principal in other faiths. It increases as a faith is more refined in the concepts of an afterlife. The Moslem idea of paradise includes physical relationships. The Sadduces that asked Jesus about marriage after the resurrection were inquiring about a concept that most have been debated even then.

The key element that was separated in the scriptures and then in orthodox theology was that eternal marriage requires an earthly sealing power, which Christ gave to his Apostles. For many Biblical comments are made such as the man is not without the woman or the woman without the man in the Lord.

Good question, because I've never known of other religions that have this as actual doctrine, although I think it's an unspoken thought of many, including my agnostic wife (I'm Mormon), albeit probably not in a place called "heaven".

I think it is Christianity in general that believe this, Mormons aren't the only ones who have that idea

I'm LDS, and I love that I can be with my husband and my family forever. I think that's one of the most wonderful and exciting doctrines we have. (and I am my husbands one and only wife BTW, I think some people are confusing some radical fringe groups with the main religion here).

I did, recently see a civil wedding (performed by a boat captain) that used the word "forever" instead of "til death do you part," or "for as long as you both shall live." Which makes me think the idea in and of itself is becoming more popular in general.

No it is not just a mormon belief - it is mormon KNOWLEDGE. I can't help knowing about other religions beliefs though.

Dear Ol' Fugly, When we go to heaven we are no longer flesh and blood but spirit. Our spirits are free of the needs of humankind. We know each spirit as intimately and with such love that it makes the worldly marriage fade to nothing in comparison. Also, according to the bible, Jesus says this: We are neither given or take in marriage. Mt. 22:30. Hope this helps.

I'm not a mormon or the religious type at all, but I do believe that once you get married thats it, that's why you should choose your mate carefully.

Most christian weddings are "Til death do you part". All of the christian churches that I know of (besides mormons) believe that marriage is for this life only.

The question is....what does God think??? (After all, it doesn't really matter what we think, it's what he thinks that matters in this area).
