Every idea I throw out there I get negative response about how it will never work, well I need something to work. I was going 131 km's in a 100 zone in Manitoba Canada. The fine is 250$ and I get 2 demerits. I'm not too worried about the demerits, it the fine I don't want to pay. I have no good reason to have been speeding other than I wasn't paying attention whatsoever because I did not realize I was going so fast. It wasn't my car it was a borrowed work car and the only excuses I can think of are that I had quit smoking the day before so my mind was all over the place, I had just come out of the doctors office and got stitches in my leg, and that it was a borrowed car so it felt way slower than with my piece of crap car, all 3 of which are true. I cannot afford 250$ as I just bought an old piece of crap house thats being fixed up. I need some good ideas. Please this is my first speeding ticket ever! I don't ever speed. Help please!!!!

You don't need a lawyer, you don't need a story. For God's sake you already have a story. I've been a cop for 32 years and I think your story as written is one of the best I've heard.

But add something and remove something.

Add some misgivings. Tell the court/judge how sorry you are. How you understand how dangerous speeding can be and you will never do anything so foolish again. You sound like you have an imagination, gush a bit.

But drop the attitude. If the court or judge detect anything and I mean anything to make them think you might be a smart *** you will lose no matter what the circumstances. Be honest, get emotional, be real but don't be a *****. They'll read it in a second.

Good luck. And remember, attitude is a choice.

It's life, dear. And there's a first time for everything. If you don't have the money, sell something. Or talk to your local police department about the money problem, maybe they will grant you some extra time to come up with the money.
It's understandable that you don't usually speed and that you were just being careless. Been there. Done that.
Nonetheless, you WERE speeding and earned your ticket, fair and square.
No, that doesn't make you a criminal.
But when you make a mistake, you make amends and learn from it. Hopefully.
See if the department will grant you a few extra days to pay up. Maybe you can borrow the money from a friend or family member and repay them on your next payday.
Do the responsible citizen thing and pay the ticket.

**EDIT** Ok, here's a fun, creative excuse:
"I don't want to pay your lousy *** ticket, because I've always wanted to see the inside of a Canadian jail!!!"

Yeah, try that.

Do you realize that anything you say on the internet can and will be used against you in a court of law? You just now admitted to doing 95MPH…. Check with your insurance agent. Speeding tickets don’t usually go against you to raise your insurance. If your insurance company says “yes they do” then take defensive driving to have the ticket dismissed from your file. Usually there are court costs to fighting a ticket. Anywhere between $40.00 - $300.00 here where I live. You can get with the CITY ATTORNEY and he might cut ya a deal to make cases go faster.. A lot of times they will. Sometimes it’s like. “Pay $60.00 paperwork fees and we will drop the ticket(s).” If you want to try and fight it then you will need the cop on the stand. (If he shows up.) You will want to ask him how he figured out you were doing 85MPH? If there were other cars around and he was driving in a lane how does he know for certain that it was YOUR car he pinged. If he did not use a radar detector you can ask him, “How can you tell someone is doing 85 mph VS 86, 88, 72 mph while looking in a rear view mirror?”

Get a lawyer. Excuses don't work. You don't want to say you weren't paying attention....borrowed car or not ...that's what the speedometer is for.

Though I'm not sure how much a lawyer will cost you.

30km over is a not just a minor amount of speed. Good luck.

Since it's your first offense, go to court and explain to the judge that it's going to be a real hardship on you to pay the fine. If the judge is in a good mood, you might get lucky and the fine will be reduced or thrown out.

Not sure about Canada but in the US, if you do not have a history of driving offenses, you can *sometimes* get a fine removed or lessened if you agree to go to traffic school. Usually traffic school is less than 20 hours, they offer variable schedules, and the cost is less than that fine. Worth asking about, at least.

This is the 2nd time I've seen this story with this sad a s s excuse. If this is true, you should have gotten a ticket for driving while distracted. Pay the fine.

If you can't pay the fine, don't do the crime. Period.

I quit smoking too, and I didn't speed because of it. Grow up!

3;25 PM You want us to help you find an excuse good enough to get you out of your resposibility? I don't think so! You could have killed somebody. Sheesh!!!

5:50 PM Got to ya, did I? GOOD! Stop and think of what you did. And it is time for you to grow up, not look for any babyish excuses.

if you can't pay it all at one time see if they will work a payment method with you most courts will just tell the judge the situation and tell them that would put you in a bind on paying rent or electric or what ever bills you have.

You'll have to fight it in court in front of a judge. They may place the violation under advisement (suspend the fund/points for a specific time, unless you get another violation)
