the only cons to this car are no longer really applicatible. in prior years - up until 2000 - the taurus had bad problems with their transmissions, but after 2000 they used the mazda automatic and basically cured the problem. they no longer have the weak transmissions. the engines are solid but the SOHC and the DOHC - both based on mazda engines and are great. the only problems you will be seeing is probably brake and disc related - they come from the factory with weak ones that wear out easily, but with 60k miles they probably have already been replaced and and the replacements will last way longer. great size, great MPG (ive seen people get up to 34 highway MPG), stout engine and tranny. good car

i have a 2001 ford tarus v-6 auto that was used in a rental fleet. it had 53,600 on it when i bought it, it now has 184,000 miles on it now. quality wise it shows it wear and tear, but the motor and transmission have held up well. but for one with just 60,000 miles on it should be pretty good buy. be weary of the cheap plastic door panels and plastic panels on the dash board as they are flemsy and can become loose and rattle over time. break life is ok, usually needing front disc pad at every 20-30k. don't be shocked if starter and or alternator gives out between 100-120k. but overall, a good car for the money.

I've got 177,000 miles on a 97, and still running great. The trans and the brakes are the only sore spots, and if Noah is right, the trans no longer is. If you service the trans correctly, and use ONLY synthetic trans fluid, you won't have any problems, anyway. Great cars, go for it.

buy an import vs. the domestic (ford).
The nice things about imports is that they don't loose their value as fast. I'm a Honda/Acura fan. Those cars can usually be found in pretty good shape and they can be driven forever (if you take care of it of course).
guess that can apply to pretty much any vehicle....didn't answer the question did I? Sorry, guess I'm not a fan of ford..
