He is not being held or forced into water when he splashes around in puddles. Mine are they same ay. The act like bath water is acid or something yet they run and play in the sprinklers outside. I have found that if you make bathtime fun for them they settle down a little. Always talk to him and pet on him. Show a lot of affection then they dont seem so tramatized by baths. I have even had to get in the tub with them. Hope this helps.

Honey Puppies are like children. They HATE bath time. But when they see a puddle they have to play in it. It is just the way they are. Why not give him a bath in the puddle?? LOL.

Bathing with soaps and shampoos is not an action that dogs undertake in the wild...the whole concept of being forced into a tiny space, hosed with water, lathered with stinky soapy stuff, hosed again with water and dried with a towel is a totally foreign process.
Dogs are naturally clean animals, but personally, I think they enjoy being stinky. :-) My two Great Danes act like the world is coming to an end when I turn on the water in the tub...you can't truly appreciate the taste of soap until you've tried bathing a fraidy-cat Dane.
Good luck!

A puppy is just like having a small child. Jumping in puddles is FUN, taking a bath is NOT!

Because when he is jumping in puddles, it is his choice, on his terms. When you give him a bath you are not giving him any options it is just something that has to be done.

good question lol. I think dogs just prefer dirty water... plus bathtime is a forced thing...whereas the jumping in the puddles the dog does freely, in his own free will therefore it's a more enjoyable experience then being rinsed and soaped up and rinsed again.

Here's a tip that might help with bath-time: Don't run the bath water around them. The sound of running water scares them. Hope this helps.

Mine loves the tub. When it is bath time he will sniff the tub and allow me to help him in. then he sits in the tub and let me rub him down. While you lather the dog, try to scratch his ears and rub his belly. He will associate bath as affection when you do so and we all know dogs LOVE affection. I did it with mine and that is why he looks foward to his bath, speaking of bath, I think it's time for a certain boxer to get his. Hope this helps.

I have no idea! Why does a 150 lb Great Dane think he is going to melt away if he gets his precious little feeties wet in the rain? But thinks nothing of wading up the brook.
