Been felling a bit unwell and the doctor won't prescribe anything, should I ask for a post mortem?

In case you're still confused, postmortem does not mean what you think it means. It is the general name given to the examining of a body after death. Since you are posting on YAHOO, we can assume you're still alive.

You might need a second opinion, or lab test. Or if your doctor has told you that you have a viral infection, (s)he won't prescribe and antibiotic, as those only work against bacteria. If it is viral, there is little to be done except get rest and a lot of fluids.
