How soon after getting a tattoo, can you have surgery?

They haven't scheduled my surgery yet, but I will be having a stomach surgery. I'd like to go this weekend to get a tattoo on my shoulder blade. How soon can I schedule my surgery?

You should ask your doctor. Many people develop allergies to the ink used to do the tattoo. And is common also to have some small “poison” symptoms after having a tattoo (I did) which sometimes you don’t even realize it, but it is there.

Having surgery could be dangerous if mixed with tattoos. If you are going to get your tattoo this weekend, then make sure to tell your doctor, so the surgery can be scheduled on a safe date later on. Unless of course, your surgery is more like an emergency, in which case you should then have the surgery first, and ask your doctor when it would be safe for you to have your tattoo done afterwards.

My friend who does tattoos says if the tattoo can be done in a one time sitting, then all you need is a couple of days for it to heal.

I would ask that question to your doctor. While I don't see too many issues occuring, you will want to make sure you are at no risk.

if your tattoo is completely healed and no signs of infection after two weeks, you are cool.

I think they would rather you haven't had one in the past 6 months but I'm not positive about that...call and ask them.
