Be responcible.NEVER give a dog any meds that weren't prescribed by a vet,,it can be FATAL.When dogs teeth come out,,it is not painful. You can kill your dog! It can kill the function of the liver & kidneys.Usually vets would prescribe buffered aspirin ONLY with food but ONLY according to body weight.Your dog is very tiny. You would need a vet to tell you how much to give.PLEASE do not dispense without a vet!!

Actually, a small chihuahua should never have human (which includes child) medicine. It can kill the dog! You can if you would like however I was a vet tech and I had a chihuahua puppy that died while working there because an owner tried to use baby medicine for a puppy. This is the worst thing you can do for him. He shouldn't be in pain though while having his baby teeth come out. They should just fall out - usually swallowing them which is completely natural. I believe you should find another vet that you can trust. Really, I would suggest going to the vet sometime soon. Chihuahua's are very small and they get colds very easy since they are small. Once you find a vet that you like, you can always tell the vet "no". As always, you are the owner therefore you get the final say at what happens with your little one. You can take the advise, then go home and think about it. If the vet gives you names of things that are wrong with the puppy, take the names and do your research. That is the best thing to do. But, I would suggest going to the vet for pain. For now though before the appointment here is what you can do: (this isn't a long term solution though because there is something wrong with your puppy)
1. Take a warm (slightly warmed - a hot one can burn the puppy) towel and place around the puppy. This is will keep the puppy warm and feel safe to stop the pain.
2. When you are sleeping or away, you can place 20oz pop bottles that are wrapped in a few thick towels in the kennel with the puppy. This way, you can keep the little one warm and comfortable while you are gone.
3. Just remember not to try any human medicine - that will definitely hurt the poor little guy.
Good Luck! And get a new vet soon!

NEVER give an animal pain killers without talking to your Vet. The best thing I've found for teething, is chew toys. Hard rubber, plastic or even human baby teething rings.
I don't believe losing teeth is any more painful for a dog than a kid. Just very irritating.

You have to call the vet!!! Your dog is very small and there are not alot of people medications that you can give to dogs. Larger breed dogs can have baby asprin or non-buffered asprine but you need to find out how much for the little dog.
By the way:
I thought you just posted that he was not losing his teeth and want to know oif that was normal.

Never, ever give your dog human medication without your veterinarians permission. Chihuahuas are so small, that giving them the wrong medication or too high a dosage, call kill them, especially at 6 months old. I have five chihuahuas of my own, and #3 of them are 5 months old and teething also. I give mine lots' of chew toy's that help them. If you think your dog is in pain, all you have to do, is to give your vet a call,{it's free} and take their advice on medicating your puppy. Again, I say to you, please do not take that chance with your puppy. You may unintentionally, hurt or kill your puppy. By the way, your puppy is absolutely adorable!

The dog doesn't need a pain reliever because it's losing its baby teeth. If it's really 'in great pain" you better take it to the vet, because something else is going on. A chihuahua is such a tiny creature that even a baby aspirin might be too much for it; never give it anything without guidance from the vet.

If your chi pup is in a lot of pain, there is something causing the pain that needs to be dealt with. Giving it an over the counter pain meds can kill it. Take it to another vet.

Dogs are not like humans and have teething issues. You are personifying your dog. Don't give him anything unless a Veternarian approves. Many of the human pain killers are dangerous for dogs and the dosage is not easy to determine.

Awww...he's CUTE. He doesn't need pain reliever, ( and please don't give him any) he needs chewy stuff to chew on. The baby teeth will fall out naturally as the adult teeth come in. Nylabone Puppy Bone is what I live by. They come in all sizes from tiny to "holy cow, that's a puppy" and help a lot.
My puppy (a chow) is teething as well and has gone through 3 of them in less than two weeks.

I have a friend who was recommended by their lab breeder to freeze a cloth (it wasn't a regular washrag, it was not pront to shredding) and the puppy shewed on it and felt better.
Just llet then chew on a good chew toy or two so the new ones can grow in.
