Ah a longhaired tabby, and he doesn't look that happy to have his picture taken. I suggest you take a sponge and dampen it and go along his coat and it will remove some of the loose hairs. It will also keep the static electricty from shocking him. After you have gone over his coat and gotten some of the loose from him try a big toothed comb instead of the brush. Make sure you don't pull as that is when he will turn and give you those love bites and scratches. Work a small area at a time and quit.. then go back and do more later. If he plays hard beforehand he may be more willing to allow you to work on him. Maybe you could let him play with some catnip first and wait until he gets into a calm mood before you start. Keep trying different things as cats hate those fur balls. .. especailly when they gather under their armpits and pull their skin because it has become so tight.

I know you want this time to be enjoyed by both you and cat. I aggree that trying different combs will help. Using special toy or treats to distract. You may only get a few good strokes at a time in but sucess will come. Having someone with cats smarts come over or paying a groomer is worth it, because he does connect you to the bad experience. I have gone to my friend to trim nails because her cat is mean to her. I surprised him with a firm grip and before he relaized why I was done. Now he knows what I am going to do and it will be over asp so he doesn't struggle.

i still carry scars from the same thing. some cats are just contrary to such grooming. try wearing heavy clothes when you have to brush him to protect your limbs. though i personally don't mind shedding a liuttle blood for my feline gods ;) lol. that's one gorgeous cat, by the way. give him a hug from me.
p.s. do get a brush that removes hair. that's the point of grooming longhairs. furballs are messy if sicked up, which is preferable to large vet bills should the accumulate in his gut, which can, if untreated, kill him.

the biggest situation I had replaced into getting the cat to stand nevertheless! She continually had to play with the comb. in the experience that your cat has long hair and that is raveled...your maximum suitable guess is to cut back off the biggest clumps of hair. in case you do attempt to get the mats out via brush she's no longer likely to to stand for that and it could desire to get very grotesque. you may start up together with her head and extremely gently groom merely her head till she is familiar with that she would be in a position to savor it. flow somewhat down the subsequent day...and so on. till she helps you to brush her total physique. she would be in a position to extra then no longer rather choose you going to her abdomen nonetheless...till she likes her abdomen petted. by no potential wait till there's a considerable situation with the cats fur!! Groom them a minimum of three times a week to lead them to extra mushy with the sensation and to help save up their visual charm. good luck!

There is a really cool mit with rubber knobs on it that you can pet your cat with that takes off the excess fur, you might try that.
He's a very cute cat.

You should get a good brush that doesn't pull his hair out, and maybe carefully trimming his toenails with fingernail clippers. Don't clip to much, or you can hurt him and his toes may bleed.
Nice pic!

You could try taking him to a groomer. It might be the easiest way!
