One of my girlfriends told me that Pantene is bad for your hair because its mostly wax-which gives it that signature Pantene shine. She is in cosmetology school so I believed her...but it has perplexed me ever since she told me. Pantene always made my hair feel great...but I can't help but wonder. Has anyone else heard this before?

Okay girls...I already clarified the fact that if indeed there is wax in Pantene that is the ingredient that gives the hair shine. I know this...you don't have to tell me again. "they aren't magicians..." no one said that they were. I also said that I have used Pantene before and that it works well, I just want to know if it indeed is bad for your hair.

Hi,

I've searched for information on this issue and many hair style -related websites do mention Pantene as a bad option for your hair. So I agree with your friend.
Some hairdressers can easily say if the shampoo you use is full of wax or silicone. If they have a so-called magnifying camera that 'scans' your hair, they can immediately say if they see remainings of such chemicals.
I've found a compromise by buying shampoo that does not really make my hair shine extensively but adds volume and most importantly, nourishes the roots and the entire hair. I then use different kinds of hair gloss sprays to give extra shine. Result: healthier hair, shiny result.

I use Pantene. I just looked at the ingredients and I have owned 2 home businesses where I sold health products, so I know most of the "technical terms". I do not see any wax product listed. My hair dresser is always surprised at how healthy my hair is because I put it through alot of abuse. Best thing to do is call your beautician. She won't lie to you.

I'd listen to H.L.A. Sounds like she knows what she is talking about! I have good luck with Pantene, too, but find that no matter what brand I use that after 5 or 6 washings I have to use a clarifying shampoo to remove some buildup. I go for Suave. Then I go back to the "good" stuff for better manageability and shine.

Just to let you know...ALL hair products, salon and store bought will add buildup and wax in your hair. It's not just Pantene. Although Pantene has worked and still works for both my mother and I, I used to work in the salon business and I do know why they say not to use Pantene. It's so you can buy their products and they can profit from it. I've used many salon products in the past and so far Pantene has worked better than all of them. It's better to try something for yourself and see how it will work for YOUR hair type rather than just going by heresay that may or may not be true.

And I'm so sick of seeing this question. Beauticians are not perfect and they won't be taught anything and everything in their schooling. If Pantene was seriously that bad for your hair, it would have been taken off the market.
