As others have stated - if you can't afford the minimal cost of adooption at your local shelter- which is usually under $100, then you should not be getting a cat to begin with. You obviously cannot afford the proper vet care that he or she may need. What would you do if you picked up one of these "free" kittens from the paper and it fell ill with a disease? If you don't have money- you can't take it to the vet, so would you just let it suffer and die? And what about vaccinations and check-ups? A responsible owner makes sure that their animals have these annually. A "free" cat isn't going to come with vaccinations. You're better off going to your local shelter and saving a life. You will be sure to get an animal who has had the proper medical care, vaccines, and some even come microchipped. Again, if you can't afford the adoption fee you can't afford the responsibility of a pet- you'd be better off with a goldfish.

Wow! I cant believe the negative comments on here. Just because she wants a free kitten doesn t mean she wont take it to the vet. Maybe its a surprise for her child and she plans on taking the kitten to the vet when she saves the money. People are so one minded, its sad and ridiculous. I know where you can find a free kitten. I also know a vet that does the works for a quarter of what it cost to adopt a pet. There are million of stray animals that need someone to care for them. So these comments prove your not a true pet lover because the few kittens in shelters actually have a chance, but the free kittens don t deserve a home. The humane society wont take kittens if your the owner of the cat that had them. So thank god for people that take the strays in or theses poor animals would never have a chance! Only 15% of kittens actually make it to a humane society! Lets compare adoption centers for children to your opinions. There are millions more children who never get adopted or even get a chance to have that kind of care. Does that mean if your daughter/son has a friend who s parents don t feed them, take care of them, bring them to your home for a sleepover and never come back. Would you break your child s heart and send them to an adoption center or would you open your door to them, feed them, let them stay there? I know my mother did that for my best friend and it changed everything for her. She now owns her own company and thru the grace of god she has finally started a relationship back with her mother. now that her mother has aged 25 years she has become a different person and finally a mother. Point being thank god for the people in this world who have an open heart and not only feel for animals, but also children, or anyone in need. There is nothing wrong with free for the simple reason that in the long run your going to pay 100 times more than an adoption fee just to take care of, feed, shelter, and vet fees. if people weren t so greedy and selling there kittens, puppies, etc. for a fortune then maybe people wouldn t look for free. stop being greedy, open your hearts to other possibilities. not every pet has to be adopted and not every child has to be adopted there are always other option s. Ask yourself if a stray puppy or kitten end up on your porch would you call animal control so they can have them put down or would you care for the animal until you found it a home? so thank god people advertise free animals because if they didn t we would have a major problem with wild cats, dogs, any kind of animal just running the streets while your outside trying to play with your children, having a cookout, etc.. and because you re so anti free, your child gets attacked by a kitten that could have had a home! Hopefully you all understand what I am trying to say you think we have animal problems now than continue discouraging people to give a home to a free animal!!!!!

RE:
Where can I find FREE kittens in my area?
I'm looking for a female kitten, who needs a good home. Preferably Free and within a 25 mile radius of East Lansing/Bath area. Also, the younger the better. I've searched the adds in the newspaper and there was nothing and I've also went to stores and pet stores to look on the bulletins...

Sorry I have 6 indoor cats (all fixed and declawed ) plus an outside stray. Which one do you want? lol I'm about 3 hours south of Antwerp. Check with the vet's office or the animal shelter. BTW kittens are never free when you start to think about it. There's the food, the litter, the spay or neuter, the shots, the carpet cleaner when they throw up, the shredded sofa or declaw, if they are outdoors and hit by a car, the vet bills....etc. Gee, why the thumbs down? Was it the fact that I joked about giving away one of mine or the reality of what it costs to have a cat?

This is a good website for finding a pet. You can narrow your search down to a specific type of pet and location of availability. Pictures, description, and the pet's history is often included. I hope this helps you find a kitten.

There is no such thing as a free kitten. After you take your "FREE" kitten to get neutered, checked and all its shots, you're spending more than $200 or $300. OR you could go to your local shelter and adopt a cat and they will charge you roughly $100 for everything inclusive.
Also, consider and adult cat adoption. Many shelters have a glut of adult cats that go unwanted and thusly are put to sleep. Many big city shelters kill thousands of unwanted adult cats a year. Remember; they are only kittens for a very short time.

Newspapers advise people not to advertise "free" pets. This is to avoid unscrupulous people who might otherwise do them harm. Check around your local Vets offices, most of them have bulletin boards full of animal pics looking for good homes, some free, some not.

I second that petfinder is an awesome site for finding a pet in your area.
But I must say that if you require the pet to be free then you should seriously reconsider getting a pet to begin with. Pets cost money. Not only food and supplies to care for it but also spaying and shots. And what if the kitten gets sick or injured?
