hello, my mother has a painful lump on the left side of her upper rib cage, right below the breast. I read another post and someone wrote, its not cancerous if its not painful. is that true? she has had it for about two days, could this be something serious? its painful, but not too painful to her. what could it be?

Mom needs to go to the Dr. ASAP, the absence of pain does not mean it is or isn't cancer, that all depends on the type of cancer the location, the stage it's at, etc... I know having any kind of lump near your breast is terrifying and not going to the doctor is an easy way to ignore (denial) and hope it just goes away, bad idea. Please go, find out that it's nothing and you will be so glad you did. I hope it's good news.

Early stage cancer is not painful.
An option and general information on muscles, pain and referred pain read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.

Actually my physicians told me that if it was painful it was not cancerous. If it was not painful, get it checked. But that was with lumps in my breast during cycle times of the month.

Better be safe and have her get it checked instead of depending on us to tell you it is okay.
