Here's the problem: There is no "best brand". There are a lot of good brands. What woofer is "best" is subjective. I think it is safe to say that you are asking about "sql" subs. They blend the best of sound quality with high output.

The sky is the limit as far as spending goes. For instance, you can walk into your local Car audio shop and Spend upwards of $1000 per woofer. To power those woofers, you could spend upwards of $1000 per amp for 5 amps. so $10,000 plus say $1000 for installation accessories is realistic. I have seen installs valued over $20,000 locally.

That being said, I have seen installations costing $1000 that sound better and are louder.

AS for the JL10W7 bandwagon... Not the best sub. No better than a 10" eclipse Titanium. Go figure, Eclipse has been making them for 10 years, about time the rest of the industry caught up.

As far as the list of damn good woofers goes, I would throw the Jl w7's on there (just a courtesy), Eclipse Aluminum and Titanium's, Image Dynamics IDmax series, Audiomobile (I don't even know if they make a 10), Adire Audio (they have a whole line up of woofers that smack the crap out of everything else), Even the new MTX subs keep up with those JLW7's. Aura Sound makes some high end woofers, but their 10's won't keep up with the other's mentioned above and you'll pay through the butt for them. I'm sure I'm forgetting about 50 other subs.

5 of any of these woofers, plenty of amplification, some extra batteries, a good enclosure, and you'll implode your head. Not literally, but you will damage your hearing if you don't wear ear plugs. In fact, 1 or 2 should be plenty unless you're looking for a spl record.

I disagree that JL is the best on the market. There are much better brands to be had for the money.

it also depends if you want SQL (sound quality) or SPL (bass).

JL W7's are known more for SPL than for SQL and for some people is a turn off. JL is also a vastly overpriced product. I wonder if they make parts from gold.

For a fraction of the cost, you could try a JL W6v2, which would produde much higher SQL and since you want 5 of them, would be all the bass you need. They would also be easier to power, because of a lower RMS rating.

Best is a matter of opinion. For extreme SPL, check out the Fi BTL at http://www.ficaraudio.com I warn you though that they sound quality is very very poor.

the JL audio 10w7s are the best on the market. Each will run you over 400 bucks on ebay. thats 2000 dollars.

the wiring will cost you another 300 minimum. Youll also need another battery (50), prob a new alternator (dunno cost), and about 5 farads of capacitors (which could be another 500 bucks for nice ones). Youll also need a custom box, which could run you like 500 bucks.

and then youll need 5 JL audio 1000/1 amps, which are about 600 bucks a piece.

aka way too much.

You're looking at quite a bit.

Probably over $500 for the subwoofers themselves. More like $600 or $700

A box for five subwoofers would probably be like $300

The wiring would probably cost $200

I'm not sure how many amps you would need, but let's say two. There's another $300.

You're looking at $1300 - $1800

Plus installation.

The biggest problem that nobody has addressed is space. If each sub requires at minimum of 1.3 cu.ft. of space for each enclosure, you're talking 6.5 cu.ft. just for the subs. Where will you put the amps?

Oh, also don't forget the HO alternators you'll need, that will add some $$$.

I have 2 18" kicker solox in my yukon. it grow to be a demo motorcar. now its my daily motive force. each and each of my subs are requiring 4 cubic ft of airspace. taking on the the again of my truck. powered via zapco. in the journey that your searching to envision like this your going to be out a hell of alot better than you imagined before you drop a sub into your truck. your going to be out better than you ever concept on making waiting your motorcar for a loopy volume of vibration. and being waiting to provide your amp's the 14.4 volts that they require. I have a 4 batteries. 2 alretnators. no ac yet after its all dont you wont remorseful about the expression on the face of the former couple infront of you at a purple mild on a sunday afternoon
