ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION

Semen may be deposited easily into the vagina of the *****. This can be

done using a long inseminating pipette which is gently introduced into the

vagina up to the cervix.(how far?) When semen is placed in this position spermatozoa

must swim through the cervix, into the uterus and up the uterine horns. During a natural rnating contractions of the vagina and uterus help in transporting semen. These contractions generally do not occur during insemination, although by stimulating the vagina some contractions may be produced.

My pipettes are about 6 inches long. You can get the pipettes for large animals, but I would think they would need to be cut down and the end smoothed. I collect the semen in a gallon plastic zip lock bag. I use 20cc syringes that are latex free. 15 to 20cc of semen is probably all you need. Any excessive fluid will just come right back out. I myself draw up the semen and leave some air in the syringe. I place my finger inside as a guide so that the pipette goes in the right place. LOL With the pipette we use, most of the pipette needs to be inserted, you will feel the end of the pipette pop through the cervex. I insert the pipette first then attach the syringe to it and inseminate the *****. I don't know how they do hog's, but with a dog we elevate the rear of the ***** for about 5 to 10 minutes afterwards. You can easily do this by putting the ***** on some stairs and face her head down with her rear legs on stairs higher than her head. The angle of the pipette really should be determined by guiding the pipette in with you other hand. Don't try to inseminate without using your finger to guide it in. I had a litter 4 1/2 years ago that was an AI litter, and someone that used my stud recently had a litter of 5 from an AI.

If you do not AI at the perfect time in the dogs cycle then it is pointless to do. Have you ever done a vaginal smear? This will tell you what part of the cycle your dog is in because the 12 day rule is not accurate at all. My favorite book of all time (you will hear me talking about it lots on YA) is Canine Reproduction and it talks about doing vaginal smears, how to AI etc.

Artificially Inseminating does not guarantee anything. It is the same sperm as if it was coming out of the dog.

I have watched this many time before on Newfoundlander dogs but I think going about it for your first time without being shown is dangerous. Talk to your vet or another breeder and see if they can show you how.

Oh and by the way, I hope you a have saved money for a C-Section because breeding Bull dogs should only be done by professionals. If you research you will find that 80% of bull dogs births result in an emergency C-Section. This could kill your dog and all the puppies if it is not done quickly. As soon as the puppy enters the birth cannel it CANNOT BREATHE because it is cut of from the mother and if it does not come out soon the puppy will die.

Email if you have any breeding questions.

There are a few real keys to dog training, whether you are trying to train your dog to come when called, sit, stop barking or any other behavior. Understanding their importance is critical to achieving rapid results that are long lasting and help develop the bond between you and your dog. Read more here https://bitly.im/aK3CQ

The first is simple; you must win your dogs mind. If you don’t achieve this first then you will be struggling the all the way. When I talk about winning your dogs mind what I really mean is that your dog looks to you for all the decisions. Before you do anything else watch one of the amazing video sites that show you the 5 Golden rules to establishing yourself as the pack leader. If you aren’t putting these in place then you are setting yourself up to fail. Just at the crucial point where you really want your dog to listen they will go and do their own thing. For sure your dog may play ball occasionally or even most of the time, you may even have a dog that is obedient 99% of the time, however if you want a dog who always listens to you and does as you ask then you need to win your dogs mind.

The second key to success is to motivate your dog. It is really important that you discover what it is that your dog enjoys both in terms of exercise and play but also in terms of a reward. If you can make the experience enjoyable then you will both achieve more and look forward to training.

Some dogs love to fetch, others love agility, and other dogs simply love obedience training, or swimming out into water and retrieve. At least to start with find out what your dogs love is and help them develop this, what I am saying is work with your dog. The other point to recognize is to make training enjoyable reward your dog.

Inseminate

The owner of the dog needs to know how to "operate" the dog, same way you can get into a car that's in perfect running order but if you don't know how to drive you won't have much luck making the car go anywhere. If the owner doesn't know how to maintain the training, the dog will soon become untrained again. Read more here https://tinyurl.im/pzjWo

People seem to think that once a dog is trained, that's it. Not true. You must reinforce the dog's training every single day in some way. It's best if the owner and the dog go together to get trained. As a professional trainer once said to me "We can train any dog in 2 days. It takes longer to train the owners

It depends on what type of semen you are talking about, fresh, chilled, or frozen. I do know breeders who inseminate their own with fresh, but you have to know what you are doing. I would not attempt an AI on my dog if I didn't know what I was doing, they can be injured.

If you are talking chilled or frozen, there are very precise guidlines for handling/shipping and to vary them will reduce the viability of the semen.

I assume you are using your own stud which would mean fresh. In that case you need to either go to a repro Vet (you will want to have pregesterone testing done if you are AI-ing anyway) or go to a breeder who knows how to do it. To do it yourself if you don't know how to do it is just plain reckless, they are not pigs.

I agree with those saying you should go to a vet... You can also do some research and see if there are any breeders in/around your area.
I learned AI about 10 years ago and actually prefer it over allowing the dogs to breed. I use it if I breed dogs from other kennels to mine. It will keep disease from spreading and limit stress on the *****. On top of that, my breed is usually aggressive towards other dogs and keeps me from having to use a breeding stand. I got my largest litter from AI... 13 fat healthy pups!

Why must you use AI? The natural method is always preferred and I have personal beliefs that if the natural method doesn't work - there is good reason and breeding should not take place. If you insist, maybe you should start with some candlight, Livasnaps and a turkey baster - good luck
