There is a lot more to this question than most people think to ask. Please call your vet, but do not get upset when they tell you it may cost $200-400. An you need to ask what kind of services and anesthesia you get for that. Keep in mind that the cheapest vet around is probably using different anesthesia, will not place an IV catheter in your pet in case of an emergency, and probably does not have a technician there monitoring your precious pet's anesthesia while the vet is performing surgery.

You need to know what you are paying for when one vet will spay your dog for $80, and another vet charges you $350. You NEED to ASK what you are getting for the money.

This will depend on if the dog is male or female. The operation on a female is more expensive. Mine cost about $70 for my female, but that was a few years ago.

You can check your local phone book. Look in the back under
veterinarians. You should be able to phone them, and ask them how much it will cost. Many of them won't quote you an exact price, but if you ask them for a 'ball park' figure, they should give it to you. The cost will include the office visit, the anesthesia, and the procedure. They will also be able to tell you how long they will need to keep the dog at their office.

Also, you may want to watch your local papers and vets offices for a 'spay and neuter' clinic. Vets often have these in the spring. They will offer greatly discounted rates on the procedure. You can ask the vets if they are going to have one soon when you call to get a price quote.

Good luck.

Your best bet would be to ask your vet at your next visit. It depends on how much the dog weighs at the time of the procedure, b/c that determines the amount of anesthetic that they use. My dobie was done shortly before 6 months and was just under 40lbs. The vet up here in Ohio priced it at $340. Since it was going to be done around Christmas time I contacted my parents' vet down in South Carolina, where it was only going to cost $125. So I had it done down in SC, which was nice since I was also off of work and could monitor her. I would call several vets and ask, some vets are more expensive than others.

In our area the surgeries run around $80.00 not including the costs of medications.

Some vets have a floating scale based on the size/weight of the dog. Some vets' offices also run "low cost" clinics during which they give 10% to 50% off on spay/neuter surgeries, so check with your local vets to see if they have this available for you.

Also, check with Animal Control or wherever the dog licenses are purchased in your area; in our area, Animal Control will provide a voucher to those who get their dogs licensed & altered that will pay for half of the cost of the spay/neuter surgery... Your Animal Control office may offer something similar to that. (You may also get a reduced rate on the cost of the license if you get your dog altered.)

It varies and depends on age and whether or not your dog has already received necessary shots - call around local vets. If cost is an issue, call your local shelter and ask about any low cost spay/neuter clinics that might be in your area.

Also - spay/neuturing can be done at 8 wks of age - no need to wait any longer and it tends to be less expensive the younger the dog.

My 50 pound female cost about $110. We called several places first and the costs ranged from $105-145. Ask the facility if that is the full amount b/c they will often try to tack on other things afterwards such as pain medicine.

Depends on where you live. Mine only cost $25. If you have a low-cost spay/neuter clinic in your area check with them. They do good jobs for way less than the vet charges.

i live in Pennsylvania and it's going to cost me $300 to have my female spayed so i may not get it done because I won't have the money by the time she's 6 months old.
