Christians, why do you feel it is necessary to pray for someone who doesn't want your prayers? Atheists, why do you feel it is necessary to object to them?

Wow, you left out entire categories of other believers. I'm Buddhist and believe that any dedication to the well-being of another person be they sentient or not is worth the time and energy. It promotes, in one's self, a feeling of compassion and kindheartedness toward everyone and anyone. I wouldn't necessarily call it 'prayer of intercession' but I would say that it is just a strong desire that everyone be happy, healthy, free and at peace.

Interesting. I see answers that say that they are atheists, with a duty to inform others, but they are insulted if a Christian prays for them. Do you people ever look in a mirror? And a devotee of Satan can pray all he wants. That battle was won by Christ a long time ago.

I had an atheist friend( we went to college and lost contact) we would argue with every notion under the clear blue sun about religion, and I always ended with I will pray for you, and she would just walk away. i pray for people who did not believe in God because I still want good things to happen in their lives, even if they do not believe

For Christians, it's about lording their moral superiority over others. Atheists are just tired of Christians trying to force their personal beliefs onto others.

I'm an atheist and I object because it is extremely patronising and condescending and frankly I'm surprised that Christians don't recognise that. If I don't believe in God for a Christian to say they'll pray to God on my behalf is an insult to my intelligence.

For the Christian, salvation comes from God and it is God that changes the heart. He alone changes the will of man, therefore we can pray. That atheist however, tries to put the Christian in his sinking autonomous ship not realizing this.

If I wanted to pray, I'd pray. If I wanted someone to pray for me, I'd ask them to. Would you enjoy it if a worshipper of Satan decided to have a chat with Satan about you, whether you liked it or not?

Atheist or not.....it's my duty as a Christian to preach the gospel and to pray for the unsaved souls of this earth.

It is the obligation of those who have knowledge to share it will those who do not.

So atheists must do all they can to pass on their knowledge to all religions.
