Your puppy may have dry skin. sometimes shampoos create dry skin and the puppy will itch. Check with your vet on some moisturizing creams or shampoos that may help him.
There are more then 500 different things that can cause your dog to be itchy. If your dog is scratching all the time it is important to find out what is causing the itch. This can be quite difficult. While there are many common causes of canine scratching, it can take quite a bit of detective work to figure out the culprit. Try not to scratch your dog itchy spot for him. Believe it or not, scratching the itch, will only make the dog more itchy.
There are several things you can do to ease your dogs itch while you try to figure out, with the help of your vet, what is causing the irritating itch.
1. Try an oatmeal or milk protein shampoo. You can get them at most pet stores and they are very gentle. Bathe the dog regularly in cool water. Warm or hot water will only make the itch worse. Soak for 5 to 10 minutes. Adding some Epsom salts, baking soda, or colloidal oatmeal (like Aveeno) to the water will increase the soothing effects. This will provide only a temporary relief lasting from a few hours to a few days. After the bath, pat the dog with a towel. Do not rub the skin, this will only increase the dogs itch. Do not use a hair dryer on a heat setting. A cool (no heat) setting would be okay. Heat and rubbing the dogs skin will increase your dogs itch, making the bath ineffective.
2.Fatty Acids, found in either marine oils or evening primrose oil, can be very effective in easing an itch. You can try giving one of these fatty acid supplements. It will take several weeks before the benefit will take effect, so they are for treating long term problems rather than an on-off irritation. You can find these at your local health food store.
3.Antihistamines can sometimes be effective with short term itches. For example; insect bites or a flare-up of hay fever. You can use an over the counter antihistamine such as clemastine (Tavist), chlorpheniramine (Chlor-Trimeton) or diphenhydramine (Benadryl). Be sure to consult your veterinarian first. Your vet will give you the proper dosage and tell you if this will be a good thing to try for your dogs problem.

This breed is know to get chronic eczema. Both of my shepherds had/have it. Your vet should have picked up on this so I'm suggesting you find another vet also. I give my dog Revolution which takes care of the fleas/ticks as well as heart worm. It costs a little more but you don't have to purchase the heart worm medication so in the end it's slightly cheaper. My vet gave me pills and antibiotics to help with the skin problem as well as a medicated shampoo which you have to leave on the dog for like 10 minutes to help remove all the skin crusts and then rinse. I've found that you can control the skin problem, but it will never totally clear up.

It could be the weather depending on where you live. It has been an extremely dry winter and you might think about a humidifier. Dogs can get dry skin just like humans can and you can use special Shampoos to help keep their skin moisturized. Allermyl and Seborrex are two that you should be able to find fairly easy from your vet or just go to Wal-mart and get some moisturizing baby shampoo, its gentle enough to use on dogs. Also take into consideration the breed of dog and what kind of food you are giving. The food may not be making you dog itch but it also may not have enough fat/oil in it to help with you dogs coat. A weird but useful way of thinking on the fat content of dog food is the cheaper it is the more fat it contains. Take into account what the Vet says but remember it could always be something that He\She didn't take into consideration.

I don't know where you live, but dry skin could very well be the problem. Vets sell supplements, like fish oil capsules, that are relatively inexpensive and will help. They also have sprays available, also from your vet. I would hesitate to buy anything from a department store. Not the real thing. If it was the food, try switching it. Again, get some samples from your vet. EVO makes an excellent all natural food for dogs.

Why does my new puppy itch so much? It isn't fleas, shampoo, or his food so the vet says.?

Puppies often get what is unofficially called "puppy dandruff", which is just dry, flaky skin that can itch a lot. There are a lot of questions that need to be asked before I could tell you why the pup is scratching so much. What type of dog is it? Does his skin flake at all? If so, are they white, dry flakes or is the skin more yellow/brownish in color and oily? How about his ears ... do they have a bad smell or look red or greasy or feel hot to the touch on the inside? What condition is his coat in? How often is he groomed professionally? Or do you groom him yourself at home? When he is bathed, is he being rinsed VERY thoroughly? What type of food is he eating (brand, formula, etc)? It can be a million different things, or a combination.

The best thing to do is to do is to get a second opinion from another vet. And it's a puppy, so you will go thru some growing pains, but it's best to find out stuff like this early. If you really need great advice ask your vet to refer you to a dermatoligist for dogs. Best to get started now with a trained vet specialist in skin disorders. Good luck. I had good luck with a doggy dermatoligist. Some may be expensive, but my dog is well worth it.

Especially when ur dog is pure breed, they are more prone to problems/illnesses. U will nv know what causes the itch. You gotta do the tial and error thingy yah. Try changing the shampoo, food, comb his/her fur with flea comb, etc. Well, that's what I did when my min. schnauzer started to have skin problems.
Personally, I think it's the food. Food usually causes a lot of skin problems to dogs. Example, chicken are really bad for their skins, make sure ur dog's food does not have chicken content. For better skin and fur, fish is a good choice. :)
I wonder whether have u heard of Neem plant. Neem plants are full of Vitamins E which are very good for skin. You can crush the leaves and try applying the "juice" on ur puppy too. A pot of Neem plant cost abt 15 bucks. It's worth the money to make ur dog feels better!
I hope this is useful! :)

Most dog owners want their dogs to be trained; In fact, many dog lovers, including Gary Shmerling, see to it that their pets undergo a series of effective dog training. Although they are inherently smart, not all dog breeds can be easily trained. Many owners are having a hard time training their pets with even the simplest of commands. While some dogs are fond of the training process, and the treats given, most breeds need proper guidance and consistent dog training.
Dog training can take so much of your time and effort as well as money, and of course - patience or understanding. However, your efforts will become fruitful if done the right and fun way. Training your dog need not be harsh; you can't even expect to see immediate results. But the best thing is, there are so many ways on how you can effectively and easily train your dog.
1. Information is always the key.
Be aware of the characteristics of your dog breed as such information can help you determine the kind and level of training needed. You must be knowledgeable with the basics if you want to successfully train your dog, especially if you chose to do the training all by yourself. Of course, research is your only tool in terms of gathering the right and sufficient dog training information.
2. Lengthen your patience. Give sufficient time and effort.
If you're moody and impatient, then it's best to have somebody else train your dog. Your patience and your effort are what your pet badly need. Without those two, you can't be consistent; and that's also essential for an effective dog training. You must first evaluate yourself whether you are qualified to train a dog or not so that unfavorable results can be avoided.
It is a must that you start training your dog while he or she is still young, particularly when it comes to obedience training. By doing so, you can have your dog avoid unpleasant and aggressive behaviors. Moreover, don't let your emotions spoil the process.
3. Discipline well. Be reasonable.
Learn when to reward and when to reprimand your dog's behavior, not just during the training but also when interacting with your family. Discipline the right way and do not spoil or punish your dog excessively. You can ignore or deprive your dog with some treats but should not, as much as possible, hit him/her with a stick or even a rolled magazine. Physical punishment would only result to disobedience and aggression. Efficacy can be achieved if dog training is done in a consistent manner, with care and reason.
4. Use the right resources.
Find out which dog training tools are suitable for your dog breed. Make sure you have a dog leash and collar as well as muzzles, crates and clickers. Know where and how to start with such tools.
Train on the best places. Look for a particular location wherein your dog can focus with the training; avoid distracting places like a crowded park. For starters, it is wise to do the training on your backyard; however, the location may still depend on the kind of training you want your dog to accomplish.
5. When all else fails or if you really don't have the time to successfully finish the kind of training you intend for your beloved dog, then go for the aid of a professional dog trainer. If you want the best dog training, then be prepared to make the investment.
