I mean people DO realize that we believed in nothing before people believed in god right? Hindu is the oldest religion in the world besides paganism. People worshipped nature before they worshipped god. Why are there so many who think religion started with the christian god?

i'm also not saying that hindu and pagan are the only ones, those are just two out of many many examples

Hell, we have proof of countless religions that we have no idea about, besides that they were polytheistic.

Hinduism
Buddhism
Paganism

All older than Christianity

Most but not all who believe that christianity is the oldest religion are the christians. I think it is because what they are being taught. Ok in the bible did it not say something about witchcraft and worshiping other gods? So wouldnt that mean that witchcraft and other gods were being worshipped before the bible, or how else would it had gotten in the bible?

As I do not know much about Hinduism I can not say exactly what all they believe in or when that religion came about, However if I am not mistaking Hinduism is alot like wiccan/pagan beliefs.

People worshiped the horned god of hunting (which the church claimed to be satan) as well as the goddess of fertility. before the church came about.

It's very simple if you're a Fundamentaist Christian. Any religions that predated Chritianity were false, mere delusions about imaginary gods and spirits. Therefore they weren't really religions. Jews got a waiver up to the time of Jesus because they were part of God's plan, responsible for making him happen. (Actually, they were Anticipatory Christians who just didn't know it.) Once he arrived, anyone who didn't convert was a crazy heathen. Even other denominations of Christianity could go bad. Whatever branch you branched off of was corrupt and no longer "Christian" (a fascinating reversal of logic). It all boils down to the unarguable assertion that the god I believe in is the only one that "counts".

Because they desperately want to believe that their religion is the only true, right, correct one, and that all others are imitations or lies made up by Satan.

The Abrahamic religions would be much more powerful and credible if they would join with the rest of the religious world, and understand that their religions are all repeating the same truths, each told with a different inflection and emphasis.

Everyone knows that Christianity is not the oldest religion. So what are you talking about?
Scholars think that early humans all believed in an unseen God. Later, they lost faith in someone they couldn't see and made their own Gods. Religion is part of human nature; people have always had religion.

"Ignorance is the blind instrument of people's own destruction." See, people don't bother to research and accept everything they are told is "the truth and nothing but the truth". Besides, before Christianity there was Judaism and much before that there were many polytheist religions.

Real Christians know that "Christianity" per se is not the oldest "religion". However, we affirm that the God we worship, who created the world and all that is in it, revealed Himself in the man Jesus Christ, and transformed worship of Him from the old covenant to the new covenant--where those who worship Him do so in spirit and in truth.

Well considering we have found Neanderthal burials with the person in a foetal position with red ochre on them to give the illusion of colour it would seem belief in an afterlife has been around a long time.

Does it make it true, of course not, and your point is very well taken

Because Christians think that Christianity is the ONLY religion.

Nobody said it was the oldest religion. Whom are you quoting? I've never seen that here at Yahoo, nor have I ever heard it.

Looks like a lot of people here calling Chrisitans ignorant, based on your question. Is that what you set out to achieve? What a noble enterprise.
