I submit to you there ISN'T one... God punishes many different offences in the Old Testament, but I don't know of a single case where a man got in trouble with God for having multiple wives! Was God just too busy to get around to punishing those guys, or did He not care...?

If you go to the bible and read the story of King David, you will see that God did punish David by taking away all his wives but bathsheba.

But, alas, NO, culturally women were not allowed to read or write or own property and could not support themselves. If their husband died and they were not old enough to be considered true widows, they were generally married off to the next oldest brother and became his wife and thus property.

These men did not go looking for multiple wives as you would see today in society, they were simply in their minds fullfilling obligations by marrying their brothers widows and thus keeping family money and fortunes in the family.

If there were no brothers to marry the widow, she was basically up for sale along with whatever property that her husband had owned, and another that might want the property had to accept the widow as his wife in order to gain ownership of the property.

In the minds of the men of that time, they were protecting the widow, even though it does seem strange to us now, it was cultural and very accepted during those times.

Women did not gain any rights until the ministry of Jesus Christ here on earth. Many men do not understand the true ramifications of that part of his ministry to this day.

Nah, a couple of the patriarchs had more than one wife. Abraham married Sarah, who was his half sister but since she thought there was no way she would ever have a kid, he fathered a son with her maid-who she willingly 'gave' him; some guy (Joshua) worked 7 yrs to marry Rachel but was tricked into marrying her older sister, Leah, so he worked 7 more years and married Rachel, then the two women got into a fertility thing and ended up 'giving' him their maids; King Solomon had 3 hundred or so wives and over 700 concubines-he ended up going senile but Xians claim God took his wisdom away b/c there were so many women-I don't think there are any actual verses to back that theory

I dont think there is either. Modern society only thinks polygamy is a sin because of the jealousy that comes with having two wives. And dont try to hurry God along He will deal with everybody eventually in this world or the next.

The unwritten law of life is, ------------- Well, what is it?

In a relationship, if you are up front in the beginning, and you are honest about who you are sleeping with, and who you plan to sleep with, then you can hardly be punished if you have prior approval from those who would be in a position to punish you.

It is when we lie, and sneak around to do things that we get in trouble.

Polygamy is permitted in the OT, assuming one follows all the rules.
