I'd like to know if there is software or some other way to take a digital photo file (i.e JPG or TIFF file) (for example, of a flower) and convert that file into a CAD file which could then be outputted to a machine that would then be able to print out a 3D version of that flower.

They did it at a glass trade show in houston.
it's a 100,000 dollar machine. they snapped photos of my co-worker...front and side... then lasers shot into a glass cube to make precise cracks like a 3d printer. he paid $60 and it is his head inside the glass cube. They sell smaller cubes at the doller store...and for another dollar you get the disco light to set it on..;.and another dollar for a pack of batteries.
I scan things and insert them to AutoCAD and draw around them... but i don't have a 3D printer.

Autodesk Inventor lets you stick pictures on your 3D models if you're looking for a flat printout of a 3D computer model.
