It's Feb. 8th, and I have yet to receive my 1099 from my previous employer. Isn't there a deadline companies have to follow for distributing these forms? If so, what's that date, and is there anything I can do to red flag this company for not obeying the law?

The deadline for companies to mail out most tax documents was January 31st.

I am not sure if you mean a W-2 or a 1099 MISC form. The answer that follows is for a 1099 MISC.

If you made less than $600 in non employee wages they are not required to fill out a 1099 MISC. One thing to do is to contact them to make sure they mailed it to the right address.

You can contact the IRS to report the company for not providing the tax documents in a timely manner, but you will need to give them a little more time before you report them.

It probably was mailed on or about January 31 so it could still be in transit to you. Check to see if they have it online. If so, you can print it out and use that to file your taxes.

call your pervious employer and get it. if you have not recieved it by feb15. then call irs and they will send a letter out and advise them of what they need to do and they could even be fined. or you can use your last check stub
