(i.e.-why do they take at 25% while they tax a bum at 10%)

I recognize your frustration, Tom, but consider: Did you go exclusively to private schools for this education, or did you go to public institutions funded largely by the government? While you were educating yourself, working hard, and making a decent living, did you use public roads? Did you ever hire personal protection to ensure your safety so you wouldn't be a burden on the police department?

We all agree that the government isn't perfect, but you'd be hard-pressed to prove that you still have accomplished all of those things with ANY government involvement. I suspect that the bum who is taxed at 10% didn't utilize nearly the public resources that you did in getting where you are today. Although some poverty-level taxpayers are just lazy (and granted, many of them just mooch off welfare), many of them are poor BECAUSE they didn't have access to the same education and work opportunities that you did. Most higher income taxpayers have lifestyles that enable them to take advantage of more government-supported and government-regulated services than those who are poor.

Now - how MUCH the government should do/regulate for us and how MUCH we should be taxed for those services, well, that debate won't be settled on Yahoo! Answers. :-)

How educated are you if you need to ask that question. You should know we have to support all the welfare babies, pay the difference for the people who work at WalMart that can not afford health insurance, and all the lazy people who want to milk SSI. What you should have asked is "are you sick of lazy people?". I sure am. If you don't have a job, are on welfare, drugs, ect. I just want to say "Get off your lazy a** and get a job!" If you work at McDonald's, the government pays for your poor a** to go to school, so go. That way you all can help us pay taxes.

To Mr. Tax Prep: Your a tax prep, obviously not an econimist. People who make more money pay more taxes (you should know this). People who do nothing with their lives get the same benifits as us (ex. driving on paved roads, police dept., fire dept., public schools, ect.) Everyone has oppertunity and if you have problems for short term, I do believe we should help, but not for years.
