You can file with the local court system to have your last name changed to whatever you wish. You do need to give a good reason for it. You will be charged a fee for it, and have to get all of your documents changed as well, but you may not even have to see the judge - the judge reads it and signs off on it, and tada - new last name.

Are you just asking about changing it or are you wanting to change it like some women do when they get married? I think you have to go to a lawyer and get your name legally changed, but if you are just getting married then change it when you get your marriage license.

You can change it legally I new a guy in school who changed his lastname.

I would try the social security office.
If thats NOT where you would start, then they could at least point you in the right direction.
