Erasus wrote in Latin and not in Dutch - which was his native national language http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erasmus so I am sorry to say but dragonfly is wrong on this. The correct answer is "C. Dante" because he wrote his classic works like the "The Devine Comendy" in Italian http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Divine_Comedy which was prior to the writing of either Milton or Shakespeare.

Good Luck!!!

A. Erasmus

Milton, Dante, and Shakespeare all wrote their works long after the practice of writing in one's national language was an established practice.
