Where did you get the picture?

Just wondering, because it's got a signature on it. If you downloaded the pic, where? If you took it, where and can you read the signature?

I've searched the Internet and my art books, but can't find it. I don't think it's any of the three artists the above answerer mentioned, though. Not really their style. I also tried to decipher the signature, but didn't get very far. I do think it's from the 19th century or early 20th century. Wish I could've been more helpful!

Looks Asian and older, say in the early 1900's or late 1800's. Gaughin, Van Gogh and Picasso 'dabbled' in and were influenced by Japanese painterts/art. You might find a link in their history or biography.

really a good question....and a real stumper....it is very well executed, done by a well trained and very practiced artist of the very early 20th century at the latest, probably 19th or earlier centuries. there are some incredible subtleties in it...but i've looked in my books and my wife's books and cannot find it...
