It doesn't sound good, I hope your regular vet is available to answer your questions and concerns soon! If your regular Dr. won''t be available soon, you may want to try someone else, maybe someone you know has a good vet to recommend to you. I hope all turns out well for you! Good Luck!

YES! ACT NOW! If the vet said for sure that they were swollen lymph nodes and then ignored your mum, could it be that you are poor or immigrants or from a minority group the vet does not like and/or (s)he doesn't think you can pay for the real care your kitty needs or that you shouldn't have kitties at all? That's happened to me before when I've been very responsible about taking a kitty in. This is a vet you should NEVER go to again.
Swollen lymph nodes can mean a serious bacterial infection, deadly virus or worst of all cancer. Right away NOW take the kitty's temparature with a digital thermometer in the rectum. Hold her wrapped tightly and completely in a towel while you do it so she doesn't wiggle away. It should be 100 to 102F. If it's over that, your kitty has a bacterial infection and needs antibiotics right away or it could die. Go to an emergency vet NOW, with no appointment!
If the temperature is normal, the kitty still needs to go to another vet ASAP, within 48 hours at the most. Until then, keep her isolated inside away from any other kitties so if it's a deadly virus she doesn't pass it on. She may stilll be able to live through some viruses, which can be tested for, if she gets testing and treatment right away.
You need also to know if your kitty has lymphoma, a very serious cancer, that can be treated sometimes, if you catch it fast.
BUG YOUR MUM NOW! If you guys ARE too poor to pay, go in anyway and beg! This is your kitty, a family member we are talking about here! You don't need the loss and guilt you'lll feel if something happens to her and you didn't do everything you could.
Best of luck!

If her lymph glands are enlarged, there are only two reasons for it, either infection or cancer. I would see your regular vet asap, and be very aggressive about finding out whats going on. Either could be very serious. Ask them to do some blood work, to check her kidney and liver function, and to check her white blood cell count (specifically her lymphocytes). Also consider having an ultrasound take to check for a tumor, but in most cases of cancer involving the lymph nodes in cats (lymphoma) the cancer is not visible on xray (the reason for checking her WBC count)

Go to a vet and get it checked if they say nothings wrong then say look agian because if you think somethings wrong with your cat then you need to find out whats wrong. A mother knows best

Not to be rude, but how do you know they are lymph nodes? Where are they located, and what is the external appearance of her skin above there "lymph nodes". Where on her abdomen are they located? I can't help any more til you give me more specifics. :)

I think you should go and take your cat to the vet and get his/her professional opinion. No one of Yahoo Answers will be able to give you such specific advice.
