turbines to generate electricty for the tower and maybe sell power back to the power company and do you think they should pay me for coming up with this idea?

I design those ugly cell towers. It's an idea that has been thrown out there a long time ago. However all towers are not designed the same. The tower size would have to be doubled at a minimum, in order to support the weight of the turbine and resist the wind loads imposed on the structure.

It sounds like a good idea, but not very practical. Those tovers probably can't hold the weight of normal turbines, and making of those turbines would use natural recourses that can be used to build windmills to those places where there is enough wind to produce good amount of energy to be sold.
Some towers have small windmills and/or solarpanels to power some of the equipment.
They could give you some kind of company gift, just because you are thinking of new ways to generate clean energy:-).

It's been thought of. Sadly, retro-fitting towers would be costly and most likely impossible to sell to the cell companies. What might work is to get cell companies to build towers in unison with wind tower companies.

In 2005 in Africa, due to the limited access to power, the largest cell phone company there decided to try building wind towers to supplement their diesel engines for direct power. After a year of use, the first few stations reported a 70-95% reduction in diesel use.

How come all the good ideas have already been thought of?

This is right up there with my ideas of solar power shingles for the roofs of any house and my idea to make a musical out of Beatles songs. The first has been out for years. The second is coming soon to a theatre near you (and no, I don't count Sgt. Pepper).

You meant a dual purposes design of cellphone tower and wind power tower.
Good idea, yes, why not?

there are currently hundereds of applications for wind turbines around the country, so it is not that new! They do need to find ways to protcet the birds and bats from getting killed by them though.

The rotating blades so close to the antennas might cause signal flutter and loss of signal. Even if the blades could be made from a non conductive material, they would be conductors in the rain.

Absolutely! And for those who are worried about the dangers to birds, they could install some noisemaking device on them to discourage the birds.
good luck!!! it's a great idea.

Yes...I am all for clean energy.
No, sorry but you were not the first to think of it...
