I've noticed that whenever someone posts a question about cancer or cancer treatment there's always someone saying that doctors are liars, chemo and surgery are just ways for doctors to make money etc.
I was just curious, how many people acutally believe that stuff?

Cancer and its treatments viz.Surgery, Chemotherapy and Radiation therapy is a very vast subject. Most of the people does not understand the implications of this disease and how dangerous it can be. So they they say all these things.

I have come across many Oncologist who work for a paltry sum for the sake of the disease and when they gain a name they are not bothered to earn money. Many are working and finding ways to cure the disease. Many governments also spend billions on researches, facilities and doctors to eradicate this killer disease as CANCER IS STILL AN ENIGMA.

I do not at all believe that the real Oncologist work for Money-

I think more people than we realized.
I personally do not believe in this stuff. If surgery and chemo are only there to make money then docotrs must be very heartless. I've seen cancer patients suffer and go through hell. I sometimes wonder who was going throuhg more pain. The patients suffering or the doctors having to see all this happen. No amount of money could comfort that.
Also the people who say that doctors never try out these alternative treatments of telling people to try new diets and stuff are wrong too. (I personally believe it's the people saying all the negative stuff about doctors are the ones out to make money) I heard on the news a few months ago where doctors asked prostate cancer patients to change their diets to whole wheat with fruits and vegetables and low protein. the ones who changed their diets compared to the ones who didn't, their cancer spread at a much slower rate. It didn't stop the cancer it slowed it.

Hi, Christi--
I think it's possible that you've misinterpreted what you've read on here, and perhaps I am partially to blame by not being clear.

I actively answer cancer questions from an alternative medicine approach, and generally read all the other answers here, and I haven't seen one answer calling doctors liars. In fact, my personal opinion is that they are some of the best, most dedicated , hardest working people on the face of the planet, and that goes for nurses, too.

It's possible that your confusion comes from not distinguishing between the practicioners in the trenches, and the policy makers at the top of the American Medical Associaton hierarchy.

Having already said the men and women in everyday medicine are ubergreat, the other part of the equation is that the AMA and the pharmaceutical companies control medical law and the FDA in this country with heavy lobbying and a revolving door policy. WHY would they want to do this? It's about the money. In 2004, medicine (doctors, hospitals, researchers and pharmaceutical firms) received 1.1 TRILLION dollars--1/4th of the total earnings (GNP 4.4 trillion) in the U.S. This is astounding, because it's like 1/4th of our citizens--about 75 MILLION people--worked the whole year just to pay the nation's medical expenses!! That's totally astounding, and just too big to care about individuals.

The numbers are FACTS published by our government, and are not open for dispute. The interpretation, however, is solely mine, and you are welcome to form your own opinion. I also think your question was VERY poorly worded, and if you had asked, say, 'who thinks medicine rakes in a lot of money with chemo and surgery for cancer', most people would also answer that in the affirmative.

So if any questions I've answered here have caused you to think doctors are liars, I apologize and will try to be more clear in the future. Once again, the problem is the ultra rich fat cats at the top of the system, who control policy and treatment protocols. These greedy so-and-so's have suppressed MANY treatments for cancer that have had higher cure rates than the long-time standard of cut, burn and poison that the AMA touts. The treatments I'm referring to cure naturally, without side effects--but they are not patentable, and not profitable for the AMA and pharmaceutical companies.

Examples that come to mind are the Hoxey treatment and the Gerson Therapy, and Krebiozen. If you really want to know the truth, I suggest you take some time and view this before forming an opinion.

Well I know in some cases it has worked but my mom who has been an RN nurse for 35 years said that in most cases Chemo therapy just prolongs the persons life a little bit longer so they are in pain longer but that they eventually die. But if it is caught early people have beat cancer. My mom also worked in Hospice a lot of the Hospice patients had cancer. According to this article Dr. Moss' work documents the ineffectiveness of chemotherapy on most forms of cancer. However, he is fair in pointing out that there are the following exceptions: Acute Iymphocytic leukemia, Hodgkin's disease, and nonseminomatous testicular cancer. Also, a few very rare forms of cancer, including choriocarcinoma, Wilm's tumor, and retinoblastoma. But all of these account for only 2% to 4% of all cancers occurring in the United States. This leaves some 96% to 98% of other cancers, in which chemotherapy doesn't eliminate the disease. The vast majority of cancers, such as breast, colon, and lung cancer are barely touched by chemotherapy. However, there is another category where chemotherapy has a relatively minor effect -- The most "successful" of these is in Stage 3 ovarian cancer, where chemotherapy appears to extend life by perhaps eighteen months, and small-cell lung cancer in which chemotherapy might offer six more months.

Read this and take it for what it is worth.

Most of the time, doctors don't know too much of how you are coping with the current chemo or whatever you are taking at the time since everyone is totally different from one treatment to the next. In other words, the doctors may want to try to experiment new treatments on you to see if you or your body can cope with it, so don't blame the doctor for trying to try something new on you since he/she doesn't know how your body will deal with the new chemo or treatment. If you have questions about what the what kind(s) of chemo or treatments, always ask him/her before they start since it might be to late to ask questions when you are in the middle of your treatment.

Doctors will advice patient that has cancer undergo chemo therapy and surgery because of continuing life, or life supliment..its not that they are liars, but because the doctor and the patient and even family members has to agree to each other. the patient has the autonomy for that matter, if they want or not...In ethics there is AUTONOMY vs BENEFICENCE, the doctor is only providing the prolongation of life, and if the family or the patient cannot afford it they can always refuse by means of a consent.

This is an untruth. My daughter had leukemia, her doctors were very cautious as to what she had done. They never ordered test or x-rays that I thought was unnecessary. They said she would probably live only a year with treatment or 3months without it. She lived 18 months with treatment. That was the longest with the type of lukemia she had. If I had to do it all over again.I would still let her have all the test, sugery, and x-rays she had. If she would of been diagonised today she may of lived longer as there are new treatments available. If you don't trust your doctor you need to find another. They are there to help.We became very close to the doctors and staff that treated my daughter. They were there at anygiven time.

Both types of treatment chemo & radiation are very hard on the body 99% of the time Drs are not liars If you have a family member/s who are doctors no wonder you would be upset Everyone who has any form of cancer has to weigh the pros & the cons & make up their own mind

Chemo and radiation can be very effective. But, after mega doses of both, my sister was told, sorry no more we can do for you. That was in 1995. She went to Mexico and was put on a speical diet with vitamins and is still alive and healthly today. My mother received radiation years ago and is currently undergoing chemo/radiation again for a different type of cancer. She probably won't have to have any surgery at all. There's all types of cancer and all types of treatments. Some work, some do not but I'd sure feel better going to a doctor with a lot of schooling and people behind him then an alternative procedure.

I dont I think alot of sacrafices have been made in the treatment of cancer and we have come along way from say 10 or 20 years ago. Many more people survive cancer now with fewer surgeries!
I dont know why treatments help some and not others but that is all the more reason to keep at untill we figure it out.
