Besides the advice you already got, try standing closer to your target at first, making sure it's a target that won't ricochet the pellet back at you. Center the + on the bullseye and see where it hits. Keep backing up to the range you think you'll be shooting at and you'll know how much to adjust your scope (it should be adjustable) or alter your aim. Otherwise, it would kind of hard to adjust your scope/aim if you don't even know where the pellet is going (if it's missing the target completely).
Take a deep breath, let a little out, relax, slowly squeeze the trigger, keeping your eye on the target and not letting your aim wander around. Relax.
Use the same pellet type and brand for practice as for your shooting match - they can have very different performance characteristics due to shape/weight/quality.
That gun is not really a match-quality gun. Don't get discouraged if after a while your performance doesn't improve - some of it may be due to the gun. If you like shooting it and want to get better, maybe sometime in the future you can pick up something more in line with your increasing skills.

First of all, don't shoot steel BB's in your aimaster, as they will damage the rifled barrel. If you have to use BB's, use lead ones.
The best thing to do would be to use a quality pellet. Start up close, and use the adjustment turrets on your scope to make it hit the center of the target. Back away, and repeat for the distance that you will be shooting at. Get a feel for how your pellet flies.

You find the range of the targets you'll be shooting at, then zero in the scope until the crosshairs are where the bullet will be at however many yards. I'm not entirely sure if it's the same for air guns. For shorter or longer ranges than it's zeroed on, raise or lower the crosshairs correspondingly. It's mostly practice.

if you want to stay in this challenge (i dont advise it) you put the x were you are going to shoot however a scope has to be sighted in and if it is not you will be having lots of problems shooting, to do this fire a couple of shots in the bench or prone position if they are going low you adjust the scope to go higher for this take off the cap on top of the scope and use a screwdriver to twist the groove in the correct position if you look inside the top scope cap you should know what im talking about. also when you shoot u want to hold your breath and if you can shoot between heart beats, dont drink caffeine before or large amounts of it the day before as it will speed your heart and screw you up

nothing wrong with a little competition but dont play for your rifle if you have never shot it before. thats just crazy your competitor has shot before obviously and is taking advantage of you. tell him you want 'handicapped" shot a string of 5 each at the target take your best 3 hits and add them to your score for real. then decide on a better stake like lunch or 5 bucks. dont play for keeps on the guns....

If you are a wise person you will back off of this competition immediately until you are capable and more experienced !!!! I believe you are getting the cart ahead of the horse!!!! You are not ready to take on an experienced shooter!!! You will know when you are, but not now!!!!!

put the x on the spot-But, you will have to calibrate your scope. first. If you've never shot a gun, you better either crawfish out of that bet or start saving for a new gun. Unless you want me to shoot for ya. I would rip that scope off though-hate those things.
