GI Diet and exercise! I was like you, I have always had a weight problem...it peaked at over 400 lbs. I am losing now and intend to get to a healthy weight in 18mths to 2 years.
You must change your lifestyle, don't call it a diet call it healthy eating and go for it. If you want more detailed advice I can be contacted via my profile on here.

Since you say that you have been overweight since early childhood, I am inclined to speculate that the root cause could be genetic, but only a doctor can tell for sure. Others have suggested that an underactive thyroid could be the cause, and that may very well have something to do with it. Get advice from a doctor about what to do.

More important than diet alone, exercise on a consistent basis will help you maintain fitness at any weight. I am overweight, according to the doctor, but I exercise on a regular basis, and I am happy with myself. As long as I can enjoy physical activities, and it is not harmful to my health, I am satisfied with being overweight. I realize that my self-worth is not tied to a number on the scale. The most important factor, in my opinion, is my health. So, when I gained weight, I asked my doctor to do bloodwork, to check cholestorol and fat (lipids). She told me that all the test results showed that I was healthy, with normal cholesterol and fat levels.

If you know that you are healthy, and your weight doesn't impede you from physical activities you like (if it isn't debilitating), I would just take it in stride, and do my best to eat well and exercise. Your friends are genetically lucky, so don't compare yourself to them. Every situation is different. Love yourself, and treat yourself right.

i have the same problem, ive been over weight my whole life also, I went to the doctors and found out that i have type 2 diabetes, So the put me on medicine i went on really hrdcore diet, lots and lots of veggis and friuts, And im still big but Im But my diabetes is under control and Im eating right now, Another thing is that You also need t be happy with yourself to be in the state of mind to lose weight. Thats what makes you have determination which is confidence... But then again my best friend has beenn big too and she doesnt have any medical issues but she has no self control when it comes to fatty foods, and she doesnt do any kind of work that she doesnt need to.... I think surgery ( if You did have the money) Is the way of cheating, You got your body that way, You should have to work to get it off, But you either are lazy or have a medical issue

I highly recommend going to see your doctor concerning this. There could be any number of biological or genetic causes, and you are not going to find that out here. Generally speaking, though, a combinatrion of healthy eating and exercise is what you likely will need to get the weight off in a healthy way. Your doctor will be able to help you determine the right amount specifically for YOU.

It's pretty tough being overweight. I wish you the best of luck! I am sure you can do it with a little bit of help and support.

Genetics has alot to do with it.
Your body is pre-programmed to gain weight at a certain rate in proportion to calorie intake and physical activity.

Two people can take in the same number of calories, yet one may lose weight and the other may gain weight, even if they do same amount of physical activity.

There are many things you can do to reach your individual HEALTHY weight.

Diets are not the answer. They will slow your metabolic rate and make it even harder to lose weight. Besides, most 'diets' are NOT healthy.

You should, first, see a doctor to make sure that the is no underlying medical condition that causes you to gain weight AND to make sure you are healthy enough to exercise.

Try to increase you daily physical activity.
Even if you start out working out twice a week, you will start to gain stamina to increase the duration and intensity of your workouts. Slowly work up to exercising every other day.

Also, strength training is often overlooked. The more muscle you have, the more calories you will burn, no matter what you are doing.

Don't get discouraged and keep at it :)

You may be one of those rare people who has some type of metabolic or glandular disorder that is causing the problem. There is one way to find out, and that's to try a different "system" of eating.

Here are some tips:

(1) Change your eating habits so that you're eating six small meals or snacks per day. It's a good way to ramp up your metabolism, but eating too much at one sitting is bad because your body will immediately store whatever calories it doesn't need right away as fat.

(2) Do the common-sense thing and avoid fast food, junk food, soft drinks, fruit juice (unless it's 100% juice), processed flour and sugar, saturated fat, high fructose corn syrup, and partially or fully hydrogenated oils as much as possible. Instead, go for good sources of protein like eggs, fish, poultry, skim milk, and lean cuts of beef and pork (cheese is OK here and there, but you have to watch the saturated fat content), good sources of carbs like whole grain breads/cereals/pasta and fresh fruits and vegetables, and good sources of fat (yes, FAT) like avocadoes, eggs, fish, fish oil, flax seed, flax seed oil, nuts, and olive oil.

(3) Make sure every small meal or snack you have has at least one good source of protein, one good source of carbs, and one good source of fat -- if fat is a problem, just take a tablespoonful of olive oil with whatever you're eating.

(4) Don't overdo -- 400 calories per small meal or snack six times a day is 2,400 calories, which is probably too much for you -- but don't UNDERdo either. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES go below 1,500 calories a day. That's a starvation diet and it's very bad for you, not to mention the fact that it'll make you burn muscle instead of fat.

(5) One day a week, you can chuck the rules and eat or drink whatever you want. Just don't gorge yourself, and try to stick to a schedule of six small meals or snacks.

(6) Get some type of exercise every day, even if it's just a brisk 15-minute walk. NO EXCUSES!!! You're a good person, right? You deserve to be thin and sexy, right? If you agree with both of those statements, then you are DEFINITELY worth investing some time in to promote your health and weight loss. You can walk as often as you want for as long as you want, but if you do any type of aerobic activity like jogging, swimming, cycling, step aerobics, etc., don't do more than 40 minutes at a time or you'll burn muscle instead of fat.

If you follow this plan, you should be able to lose AT LEAST two pounds a week. But if you honestly follow this plan to the letter and you don't lose any weight, see a doctor and have him/her run some endocrine tests on you.

Good luck!

Try this for six months and see if you loose any weight. Proteins for breakfast, and don't skip it(eggs, milk). Salads through the rest of the day(like four or five times). Water throughout the day(not more than 8 glasses). Exercise in the afternoon(no need for more than one hour).
