to get to know someone that leads to marriage. it's not to be physical, but about knowledge and understanding the person. physical is to be enjoyed for marriage, you don't get to know someone by humping them, that's what dogs do.

Different agendas for everyone. Different kinds of dates.
A date is typically where one woman and one man get together to enjoy each other's company while engaging in a pleasant activity. Food, games, competition, sporting events. Sometimes the date occurs as part of a group activity.
Sometimes there is exchange of personal information and preferences to see whether a more significant relationship is likely. Other times, it can be merely to have an escort of the opposite gender.

To find out if you and the other person are right for each other! Plus, it goes waaaaaaaayyyy back to the days of old English society about how a pre-arranged couple were to act and behave in public(and private!) before marrige!

dating is the sole annihilation of love in this country. it sucks. id say that most people arent real on dates and as one girl pointed out; to date alot of people at once. sound like love to you? not to me. i know that my view here is rather drastic but the way i view love i dont think is out there anymore. altruism is dead. and if there are still people that way out there, more often than not they end up with selfish losers. then they become selfish to get revenge. its a lose-lose. maybe its cuz im hacked off today but just stick to casual dating. and if by chance you meet someone who is a good person, treat them right and dont screw it up cuz their almost extinct.

To get to know people who has the same interesting values, something in common, who is free spirit in other words a "soul-mate " that has the qualities that you have.

Dating is like test driving before deciding to purchase. Ideally you are suppose to date several people at once, narrowing it down to the ONE!!!! Then you get married and have babies.

i think it's just a term used to name a situation where to people r getting to know one another and spend time with one another. i'm not so sure never really thought about it. nice question!!!!!!!!!
