Most actors and singers do so on talk shows, and you idolize them.
I find it rather comfortable, but what do you think?

Honestly, a little. It is classy though. So do it if you are so inclined.

It's a psycholigical response of defense, protecting their groin and instilling purposefull discomfort to ensure they do not forget they are in distress or danger. Men on talk shows do it? Perhaps because they instinctively know their careers could end with the wrong response or word.

As for yourself, any gesture can become comfortable if you do it often enough, but you must feel insecure very often.

A woman can cross her ankles when she sits down., not her legs.
A man must never cross his legs, and not perch one ankle on top of the opposite knee. He must sit with his feet on the floor, no more than 1 foot apart, hands on his thighs, facing down.
Just look at how diplomats or senior politicians sit when interviewed on TV, preferably Europeans.

It is the proper way to cross your legs. Laying your ankle on your knee in a 'L' knee cross is casual etiquette. But formal etiquite has one leg over the other in a tight X

It's true

I don't think about things like that....if a man wants to cross his legs tightly....they're his legs.

it's a more proper way to sit...if you just sat there, it's less attractive and not as polite. you have to maintain some sort of stature and presence -- on or off the screen

Got a smile from me, good question. I feel the same way, it has to be so uncomfortable and does look sorta sissy like.

It doesn't bother me. They probably do it so they don't show the world their balls.
