I have friends who are fanatic (and productive) fisherman. Virtually all of them freeze their fish in water. Which is to say: ziploc freezer bag, fish fillets, fill as much as possible with water, leave room for ice expansion. They easily go 6 months, some claim 12 months. At any rate, it won't go "bad" just lose taste at some point.
I am a fan of vaccum sealing my fresh meats if I plan on them being in the freezer a long time. That process is hard to beat IMHO. I have not done with fish however.

As long as it's wrapped well, fish should be good for 4 to 6 months in the freezer. As long as it's frozen it can't become unsafe to eat, it will only start to taste old.

Non-fatty fish up to six months. Don't put fatty fish like mackerel into the freezer. It won't keep more than a week. Non-fatty fish like bass if wrapped properly will keep for a half-year.

As long as the fish is well wrapped, and shows no signs of freezer burn, it will last pretty much indefinitely
