I quit smoking cold turkey in december (haven't had even ONE since). everything was fine -- now the past month or so i have been getting a THICK (sorry gross!) clear mucus stuck in my throat and i have to cough it out (it's like VERY thick phlegm) so thick sometimes I can barely get it to come out. what is this and does it have anything to do with smoking...no i don't have a cold, am not sick.

Your Lung cilia (hairlike structure that moves sputum out of the breathing pipes) have regrown, increasing the ability to "clean" lungs and reducing the likelihood of infection. This is why you have mucus now- your lungs are self-cleaning but only when they aren't being suffocated by smoke.

That's your body trying to remove all of the crud left over from smoking. It will get better.
