Brown Recluse bites can be fatal!!!
I would either get a second opinion..or watch the bite closely..draw ring around the bite..and if the infection spreads out of the ring, changes color..(especially to black then it is most likely to late..) go call 911..I have seen some nasty pics of people that had to have some dead tissue removed from the bite..I don't want to have your grandmother loose her right breast over this..
Her being a diabetic, she is not going to heal as well, in addition she is elderly..she should be on an IV Antibiotic Drip and closely watched..
If it was my granny,I would take her to another doc..

I was bit by a recluse on the ankle, the skin was burned off immediately and it looked wicked. I did go to the doc, gave me an antibiotic for infection and put a gauze pad on and away I went. The diabetes issue..........just keep a close eye on the area around the bite, make sure the skin is coming back,no infection stuff like that. I think she will be okay, I want to thank you for caring so much about your grandma, you don't see that too much these days.........you are special, take care.

Go see a doctor right away. You'll likely get a prescription for antibiotics (& possibly antihistamines) to clear up any toxins from the spider bite. I got bitten by a poisonous spider about a week ago (quite possibly a brown recluse, although I didn't actually *see* it since I was asleep in my bed). It itched like crazy the first day, but the second day it got swollen, tender & puffy and I developed bad muscle spasms in my leg & started running a fever. The bite was encircled by a larger, red area about the size of a silver dollar coin. The doctors gave me prescriptions for Bactrim, Keflex & Vicodin. The next day the abscess opened up & started draining, but it took awhile longer for the swelling to subside. Now the "dead skin" around the center of the bite is starting to peel. Long story short: Don't take any chances - get medical treatment asap.

Totally healthy people have experience difficulty with those kind of spider bites. She obviously needs to keep a close on the wound and a second opinion or trip to the ER may not be such a bad idea. Especially troublesome is the fact that wounds for diabetics do not heal like a healthy person's...sometimes it takes forever, if at all, increasing chance for infection and that sort of thing.

Brown Recluse bites are potentially fatal to the young and elderly, but if the doctor looked at it and prescribed antibiotics for the bite and recommended draining it that is about all he can do. surgery will not help it because the venom is already in the blood stream. if you want a second opinion you are by all means entitled to it, but i have a feeling that the other doctor is going to say there is not much else they can do.

Diabetics sometimes do not heal well, a second opinion never hurts to get. People have died from recluse bites and that coupled with the diabetis can't be good.

A brown recluse spider bite will have to be treated with antiseptic because of the diabetes she really needs hospital monitoring of her bite. The bite causes the tissue to necroses (die) over a period of weeks so if its a recant bite it will get worse before it gets better.

Since the Brown Recluse bite tends to kill the skin infected around the bite I would go to the Emergency center for further evaluation and second opinion.

Get this lady to a surgeon ASAP. Those bites are very dangerous and her having diabetes is not going to help with the problem either. Sounds like this doctor doesnt know what he is doing. Just call his office and tell them you want and demand a second opinion. This is nothing to fool around with!!!!!

Also apply epson salt and wet it and let it set after cleaning as the salt helps heal and draw toxins out I know diabetics take more healing time than other but when this happened to me right under my npple I got atibiotics and creams that didn't seem to work so after about 2 weeks I took a hot soak and applyed epson salt and gouged out all the bad area and it healed fine.
