I don't know if you can really nail down "prophets" like we did in Old Testament times. Prophecy is a spiritual gift that many people can have.

In one sense, really depends on what your religion is.

If you're Mormon, you'd probably accept the idea that God has recently re-opened the cannon (he had it open for 4,100 years from 4,000 B.C. to 100 A.D., when the Bible was written, and then opened it back up in 1830). So five modern LDS prophets would be Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, Gordon Hinckley, Ezra Bensen and Spencer Kimball.

LDS people are always talking about how you can pray to God and ask Him if these guys really are modern prophets, so you don't have to rely on their claims, just like you wouldn't believe that Moses was a prophet (or whoever) just because he said so.

prophets were before Jesus. They were people that the holy spirit came upon. We are in a different dispensation. People MIGHT make a prophecy but they aren't your original sort of prophet men innit.

Well, the bible says that God has poured his spirit upon all men. So I would say that many of those that follow him, and listen, can be his mouthpiece, or prophet. I myself have prophesied, but it is not a switch I can turn on and off. When God chooses to use a person, if that person is willing, he will use them.

Mel Brooks coalesced the vapors,
Stephen King drew upon all of wildest fears,
Katie Holmes showed us what idolatry can do to destroy you,
Oprah really could inspire us to save the world,
and
Drew Carey wants to makeus spontaneously make others laugh again, instead of relying on mass-produced canned crap based on strictly-scripted gunk.
I think that makes the wordl a better place.
